What is this Laurel Fork thing? Another inmate who lives near here mentioned it but I'm not sure what's going on . We've got a storm and cold front moving through right now, windy and overcast, rain with possible heavy thunderstorms forecast for today. The good news is that it's supposed to all be gone by early Saturday morning, but it will be 15 to 20 degrees colder. No wind and dry for the next several days after that, wooot!

I'll search for this Laurel Fork thing... May be a fun day ride or something, might even talk my lovely wife into a ride! She loves to ride with me, she's just buried by work right now, could use a stress relief day.

EDIT: Oh, DUH, it's a thread with about 1000 pages of hootin' and hollerin' about how much fun it is! Must investigate, thanks!

I think I need to do some scouting and get a feel for those campgrounds...

The bathrooms with showers are pretty new, year-before-last IIRC. We always go in from the Warm Springs side, usually down Highway 39 to Bacova, turn on Road 603, follow the lake around to the Bolar Mountain campground which has an area for parking and launching kayaks. There's a swimming beach just a bit further to the west that also has potties and showers but they won't let you launch a boat from the swimming beach. I understand about power boats and swimmers, but kayaks? Really? I actually saved a kid's life there one afternoon - we had illegally launched our boats from the swimming beach parking area and paddled out to some islands. On the way back we came across a young man who had swum too far out and needed help getting back. He was about to go under and his buddies were screaming for help. I gave him my life vest and towed him in (that was hard work!). He was SPENT but OK.

Anyway, it's a very nice area with lots of trees, water you can swim in for those HOT days, close to the little town of Warm Springs (food, beer, and gas) but pretty remote from any larger towns or cities, and absolutely surrounded by amazing roads, paved and dirt. We like it . If you want to go scouting give me a shout!

Found a photo of the area! Sometimes we use the GS as a shuttle vehicle if we're doing a river, always fun to get the best of both sports!

The Bolar Mountain area is dead ahead and the swimming beach is off to the left a bit, just out of the frame of the photo. We had paddled over to the islands for some peaceful bobbing in the waves and were headed back. I think this was the day I rescued that kid.

It's very nice.

Or just old enough now that photos of skinny dipping aren't as exciting as they used to be...

There definitely is some pretty scenery around his neck of the woods.

Estoy de acuerdo con Mario hermoso allí abajo. Usted también tiene algunos hermosos paseos en los Pirineos.
