Accidental power wheelie today
I don't know why there's a guy barfing in my title, but let's get on with it. Where I live, in the Merced River canyon just outside Yosemite Valley, we have the distinction of having the only traffic light in Mariposa County, which, until the need for our light arose, was the last county in the state of California to lack a traffic signal. However, ours doesn't really count because it's just one of those temporary road construction types for alternating traffic through a single lane section, due to a massive rockslide a few years ago. I'm sure several of you have been through it.
Well, today as I rounded the last corner before the light, I saw a hell of a lot of cars, so I filtered up to the pole position, and relaxed for a few minutes. When the light finally turned, I quickly hit the start button, grabbed a handfull of throttle (nothing crazy, maybe just over half throttle), and aggressively dumped the clutch... WHY THE FUCK AM I WHEELIE-ING LIKE A CHAMP? I THOUGHT I WAS ON A DR !?!? I thought these things had to be lifted up aggressively to wheelie. Now I know better. For something I wasn't expecting, even trying to do, or had ever done before, I was happy with my measured response. I didn't freak out, I just rode it 'till the shift. It was freaking fun! I love this bike. I had just put fastway evo II pegs on, and they feel awesome. Looking forward to another radical day on the bike tomorrow, going up to Tuolumne Meadows to hang out with some friends. Maybe as I'm riding over the most glorious landscape on the planet tomorrow, I'll do a wheelie on purpose...

Giddy,
Just found this thread, been a member since April. I have avoided the main DR threat because I know bugger all about carbs ! Bought the DR in April, have put TKC 80's on, grip heaters, 12v outlet & tool tube. Upgraded from an XT250 and have really appreciated the extra power and capacity to further explore the beautiful country side here in Tasmania, Australia. I wear a RJay Dakar helmet generally with the clear visor up. I haven't worked out the right answer for comfort, safety and sun glare and end up constantly changing between my goggles, sunglasses and putting the visa up and down. What do you use ? Cheers Spud |

Welcome aboard Spud.
This thread may discuss carbs from time to time, but so far (knock on wood) we've managed to do it w/o making a shouting match of it. Good looking bike. I ride w/ a full face helmet and dark shield most of the time. I"m sure some of the guys will chime in w/ some suggestions though. Ride safe

Well look what I found.
Didn't realize I still had it. What a collector's item. Must put it on eBay.

Tresspasser - the signals appear to be there. Possibly LED's..one leaning against the tank in the pic.
Spud - I can only offer Polarized sunglasses with your current helmet. I like the internal sunshield idea in dec's pic. I have the AFX-39 with an external sun shield which also has a visor I tip to block the sun if needed. The flow is very good and I don't get neck fatigue as the wind doesn't grab the visor much. http://www.atomic-moto.com/AFX-FX-39...eld_p_731.html Best pic I could find.

Nice tail end! Damn. Here's mine. Gonna have to do something to put some light on my plate, as I don't want to be caught ridin' dirty by the man.
