Dominator Street Tracker

Hi, I'm currently building a Honda NX650 Dominator based street tracker. The project is underway , but still with a long way to go and so I'm hoping that by keeping a build diary here I will be encouraged to keep it from stalling ! Will post pictures of the progress so far, over the next few days. Here's the first, showing the bike in the process of being stripped down.

Welcome Phil.

You need to host the images elsewhere (picaso, photobucket, smugmug, etc.) and link to them.

I had an NX125 and am curious as to what a "NX650 street tracker" will look like.

The first job that I tackled was lowering the front suspension. I lowered the forks 100mm (4") by removing a 50mm spacer
from above the springs and then chopped off a further 50mm from the end of the springs that have the more loosely wound coils. This should stiffen up the front end as well as lowering it. Next I machined up some 100mm spacers to fit below the springs,which compensate for the removed material up top. This ensures there's no slack in the forks when the front wheel lifts off the ground ! There's a large hole in the spacer to line up with the oil way and a grub screw to line the two up.

Here's the bike sitting pretty, 100mm lower at the front

Hmmm, be carefull with those spacers in the bottom end, a friend of mine built a full size nsr once and put the spacers below the springs which ended up in a locked up solid fork when the spacers jammed beneath the upper tubes.

Definately make sure you have a way to hold them absolutely center in that lower leg.

I cannot believe how similar that frame is to the frame on my DR650.

The front wheel has now had the 21" rim swapped for a wider 18" rim and both rims have been powder coated satin black, with Made-In-England Avon road rider tyres fitted. Finding a 32 hole rim to suit the hub was not an easy task, as nearly every ally rim on e-bay is either 36 or 40 hole.
The fork spacers should be fine. I made them with an interference fit on the inner piston strut and about 3mm clearance round the outside for good oil flow.

Just waiting for my genuine Chinese Yamasaki tank to arrive in the post now !

Off to a good start. Running a similar wheelset on one of the 650L's I'm building right now.

Hello,
I can't stand waiting for your chinese tank.

I've got an XL600lm and got a similar project on her. Mostly easthetic at this time due to my lack of knoweledge.

As far as your frame is the same as mine, do you know if an old CB350 or 360 from first seventees would fit on it?.
