I thought 16l was four gallons and that the F650GS has an 18l tank or 4.5 gallon tank.

In all my reading on the forums, I've never read of anyone fitting more than about 4 gallons/16L in the tank ... even if they pushed it into the gas station...

I don't think they understand the concept of "collaborative". Just cause Wiki says it's so, don't make it so. The bizarre things I've found on google completely by accident still amaze me. I've spent hours in stunned disbelief browsing web sites belonging to radical nutjobs because some random word in a search has linked it. I'll have the counter terrorist weenies kicking down the front door now. They track everything we do over here now. But I see itsatdm's point. The name change would make it easier to identify the old F650GS, as distinct from the older F650GS...not to be confused with the....oh....you know what I mean. |

Just another example of a marketing department run amok. Very sad really. As if picking the perfect(ish) Dualsport/Adventure bike for your style of riding and budget wasn't hard enough. I gotta say, as a researching buyer this move on BMW's part is pushing me towards KTM. I mean, seriously BMW, after Long Way Round came out you must have hit paydirt. Why get greedy and try to cover all marketing demographics? No offense to any owners out there, but IMO BMW Dualsport/Adventure bikes are going the way of the Hummer which is generally a street ride that is too expensive to take in the dirt.
Whats the old saying? The tail wagging the dog? Yep, that's it. Don't be a slave to marketing departments folks. Trust me, I work in one. Sorry to vent. Ride safe.

I like the new F700GS, the looks, the breaks, the control-switches. I am quite excited about it, and it has defenatley tilted me towards the F700GS over the F800GS in the F650GS vs F800GS debate.
Naming conventions? Who really cares. Keep your tounge straight when you're talking/writing about it, and it's fine. People get hung up on nothing.

I STILL don't get BMW's take on this model. First calling it a 650, now a 700. Pumping up the hp/torque a bit, but come on, through in the powerplant of the GS800 and call it a day. Is even a beginner gonna get into that much more trouble with those extra 10 horses?
Don't get me wrong, I really like the bike. Just would have a hard time throwing my money down when I could pick up a Tiger with more horses. But I guess I'd have to ride both first, then make up my mind.
