Toronto to Boston...the long way

My friend and I are leaving for our annual road trip this afternoon.

This time we are going to Boston via Ontario, Quebec, Vermont, North East Massachusetts. Our way home finds us going through New Hampshire (have to go up Mt Washington), Maine, Vermont (ferry across lake Chaplain), Adirondack's and home.

Should be a fantastic trip!!

No pics yet...but there will be!

Have a great trip and post pics. I did a similar trip a few years ago and didn't take many pics between Sault Ste. Marie and Boston. Would be nice to remember that part of the trip better....

Thanks everyone!

Two late nights are not conducive to providing very good updates...

We just woke up at the Best Western in Waterbury VT, missing a thunder storm by a minute the night before.

My friend and I are meeting our wives in Boston today and with any luck at all I will be able to upload pics and get caught up.

All right now that I have some time...will try to catch up.

Waiting for my friend to finish work

Get me off the 401 highway, wah, 4.5 hrs till Ottawa...oh well, tomorrow will be better

Flirting with rain

Our parking spot for the night... like starting in style

Sorry, no food porn at this stop. It was late and I was out of the blogging grove.

The next morning was a late start due to the late night before...

Fuel for us

Fuel for the bikes

On the road again...

Once we got out of Ottawa and in to the countryside, the roads were more to our liking....

More fuel for the bikes and soon some for us...

Lunch in La Belle Province!!

A navigational error ( won't be the first, Boston had the most....so far)

Too be continued...

I saw the Spot Tracker in your tank bag. I would recommend that you keep it on your person. It wouldn't help you if you happened to get separated from your bike and couldn't reach it in an emergency...

Just a thought. I am an ER nurse and think about things like that.

Love the pics. Keep them coming and have an awesome time.

I have been thinking of that...not the right place when alone, but I had a friend with me the entire time so it was there out of convenience.

As a firefighter we think a like

I'm back home and have time to update

Some great bridges in Quebec

Gas time again...then more open road

Another older bridge in QC

So the Border closed at 4pm and it's 4:45pm If we started at 9am it would have been fine...oh well. It will be a bit of a theme for the trip.

My friend wanted to test home land security and "by-pass" the crossing but that was really NOT something I wanted to try.

Bizarre house on the way to another border crossing (hope that one is open)

We crossed at another tiny crossing (no photo's) and the Agent warned us of the incoming storm...

Hoping not to get wet in the Vermont Mountains

SNACK TIME

Got to Waterbury with a minute to spare!

Nice Best Western, has a restaurant in the hotel that did the trick.

Eating healthy when I can...

Dessert

Day 2

So today was the day we meet our wives in Boston. Up early, eating by 7am

It tasted better than it looks

Now that we are full, time for the bikes

After some amazing roads we climbed into the clouds

Out of the clouds and more FANTASTIC roads

Stopped for a "rest break"

Water fall at the side of the road

Then back to the twisties

Then we came to an area that was hard hit by Irene To see some of the devastation in person was shocking. Homes that were washed away.

The rivers had lots of debris washed to the sides and we could see a lot of road and bridge repair.

Lunch stop

Making our way to Massachusetts

Without even a sign, we entered Massachusetts and the roads were still a ton of fun

Older bridge 1889

How much more of these roads are there

So after awhile, we started to get into Boston. That's when the fun started. We had only seen about 100 cars and then there were 1000's... The GPS said to get onto the I93 which is fine except the tunnels and GPS tend not to work too well together. One wrong turn, two, three...where the hell are we??? Four wrong turns, five @#$^#%&^ where's the Hotel . Call the wives, consult the GPS...we passed it WTF???
No wonder we can't find the damn thing...

All right, dump the stuff, no where to park the bikes?? Oh, the blue "P" over there....

Back around the block, get into the garage (no ticket) talk to the guy at the desk, call the manager, get a card all is good till we try to leave...

You can just make out the mirror on the Second floor

Tucked in for the night...we ride again Saturday

Day 3

Once we got into the city and didn't have to drive, I loved Boston!

Food porn in Harvard, yes we walked from the Financial district to Harvard. It was hot and long, but we stopped at MIT and a few other places along the way.

The next day, it was easy to get our bikes out of the lot to our surprise (yes we paid)

On the gas (at 10:30am, a tad late) and up the coast, flirting with rain

I hate ice cream trucks...

Lunch!! Another Lobster Roll...I had too. This one was FANTASTIC

A great ride up the coast

Afternoon rider's break

Then found some great empty roads

This sign is for Lost Rider...

On our way to Mt. Washington NH

High winds...blow motorcycles off the road...missed the last Guided tour by 30 mins...ah crap
Now what.
Stay near by? Try in the am after the road work? Move on and not have a ridiculous day tomorrow?

Till we meet again Mt. Washington

Home for the night in (near) Montpelier

Applebee's right beside

Don't judge...we (and the waitress) had some good laughs over this...

Food

Sleep

Day 5

Up and on the road at a 9am. Got to the ferry docks in Burlington at 10:10 and had to wait for the 10:50 ferry to cross lake champlain.

After two years in a row, slugging it out around the top of lake Champlain and into Platsburg, this was by far the best way to go!!!

5 min off the ferry and the Ausable Chasm

Back on the throttle, Ottawa bound!

Lunch in Tupper Lake, it being Sunday, we found few choices open.

This bridge was scary!! Not only could you see right through it, but the front tire DID NOT track in a straight line. It was very squirmy, not a nice feeling at all...

Day 6

We stayed with my friends parents in Ottawa. A truly fantastic way to top off the trip.

Packed and ready to go in the morning

More great roads out of Ottawa...

Somewhere near the 508 or the 16

Trying out out run or out smart the rain...

The last gas stop and the last photo of another great trip!!

Day 7

So let the planing begin for next year
