Question Question, re the new Camaro, Challanger, Mustang Convertables

My wife is jonesing for a convertible. I am thinking one of the new pony cars with the V 6 engine and auto tranny. From what I understand the newer V6's are around 300 HP and get somewhat OK gas mileage.

Any experience and comments would be great.

Before!

You buy a convertible, go rent one for a day. You may change her mind. IMHO a Sun Roof is a better option.

My kid has a 14 V6 Stang coupe. It is an incredible car for the $. The stock gearing is crazy tall so 4.10s will be going in ASAP but he is averaging 25-6 MPG all local and drives it like a 20 year old kid would.

My buddy has a 06 Vert, very, very tight car compared to the previous generation. It has the 4.0l v6 auto, 210 HP??? With a GT rear and 4.10s it feels like a GT, no BS. The new 6 speeds will be even better with some reasonable gears in the rear. The 3.7l also gets a 8.8 rear stock instead of the previous 7.5.

The hi-po V6s sound stupid at high revs. That is all I have to add. But then, most hi-po V6s sound like ass.

I had a '10 Mustang convertible in '10&'11. It had the old v6 and an auto. I was really surprised with it. In a good way. The interior, if you get the premium package, is very nice, and the SYNC stereo is very cool, if you use an iPod. You won't win any drag races, but it was just a great car to drive. And holy cow, you can pick one up CHEAP if you are ok with buying used.

I've driven all three very extensively.

Skip the Challenger, it's all pork.

The Camero is the most driving fun - the throttle response is crispest and steering is best. Gear changes are better than the Mustang and it also feels the most planted. Interior quality is good, but amenities suck. The visibility is awful. Really bad.

Mustang is the best package. Personally, I think it's the most beautiful of the 3 and I like the engine sound the best. It's not as quick to shift or rev as the Camero, but the interior and amenities are more livable.

I think the Camero is more fun to rent, but I would purchase the Mustang if I were buying.

Me? I'm waiting to see what the new Mustang looks like. Then it'll either be a Fiat 500 Abarth, Mustang, BRZ convertible, or I'll say fuck it and get the Boxster I really want.

i've owned a few convertible over the years, MGB, JEEP WRANGLER, 2 MUSTANG GT verts. My bike was taken away from for a few months by my doctor. I was researching all the verts, mustang, camaro and vette. of course the vette was the most expensive but it did not have all the flaws of the camaro and the mustang (flaws that the forums exposed), before I could close a deal on a vette, i found a bargain deal on a Miata--and bought it. I love this car!!! it is the most fun to drive car I have ever owned. I even ride it instead of my bike since i don't need to wear gear. test drive one....

I've never driven a miata. Always looked like fun. I like the generation with exposed headlights and the small body. (the car. still talking cars.)

Go ahead and buy the 'stang now...do it! Now! Enjoy the rest of the summer with it....

(Of course...with your travel schedule, you'll put maybe 1,500 miles on it over the next two summers...and, given your demonstrated ADHD tendencies when it comes to lusting after and then tiring of all sorts of tasty motorcycles, I'll be able to step in and take the "used" mustang that has been garage-stored and babied for less than 6,000 miles over 24 months off your hands for cheap money! That's my plan, anyway...)

Too bad the Solstice/Sky are no longer made. Pure fun for a 2 seat convertible. My only complaint is the top is 100% manual requiring you to exit the car to put it up or down. But, at 300hp and 325 torque at 2900 pounds, it is a blast to drive and handles great!

If you need 4 seats, a BMW or Audi is the way to go for sporty handling and comfort. Hard top is a plus!

Jim

PS YES, I posted it again!

How about a Bentley Azure? 450 hp and 645 ftlb of torque and 5900 lbs. Or, a Morgan three wheeler. 80 hp and 1200lbs.
