This boat is a reproduction of a 1920's Gar Wood design that he built in his barn.
The engines are RR Merlins. The engines in the original boat were Packard. The Merlin engine was originally a Packard design. He wanted the boat to appear as original so he had these valve covers sand-cast to duplicate what should have been there. (Did I use the word "original too much?)

Auto Unions In Action

In September 2004, Audi brought out three Auto Unions for some exercise on the streets of Zwickau. The noise will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up... even if you don't have any.

Sorry it's not a close up.

Austin Healey BMC 2997cc, six cylinder race engine. Aluminium head, steel crank and rods, Cosworth forged pistons, three Weber 45 DCOE on a custom intake manifold and many more mods. Standard engine made around 100bhp and revved to no more than the high 4000's. This engine made close to 300bhp and could rev to 8000rpm in the heat of battle.
