this might get my colorado down the 1/4 faster than 17 sec.

2.7l 350-400hp.-probably less on pump gas. redlines around 9000.
might have a problem bolting up a bellhousing since midgets don't run much in the way of transmissions..

Small block Chevy I'm building for a future project.
Started out as a garden variety 2bbl grandma car engine, 71' vintage.

Now:
Ported and decked heads with new valves and HP springs.
Nasty hydraulic cam.
.040 overbore with flat top pistons.
Decked block.
Dual quad intake with a pair of 500cfm carbs.

Shoud make 350+ hp.

In 1986, Lancia Triflux motor developed for the ECV2. This incorporated a new type of engine, a twin turbocharged 600HP 4 cyl using only 1.8L displacement.

Technical specification

Engine - Centrally mounted, longitudinal with 4 cyl inline. 1795CC. Bore x stroke, 88.5mm x 71.5mm Triflux' double reverse flow cylinder head with 4 valves/cylinder and twin overhead camshafts. Compression ratio, 7.5:1. 600bhp @ 8000rpm.. 55mKg@5000rpm. Twin KKK (K26 type) turbochargers with individual intercoolers. Weber/Magnetti Marelli injection/ignition with electronically controlled turbocharging level. Dry sump lubrication with pressure and extraction pumps and air/oil radiators.
Transmission - Four-wheel drive. Epicyclic train torque converter with viscous coupling and ZF differentials rear. Carbon fibre/Kevlar drive shafts. Provision for locking the central torque distribution (30/70, front/ rear). Twin-plate clutch with metal-ceramic friction gaskets. Five speed gearbox longitudinally mounted at rear.

They're both of the same type - exhaust exits to either side of the head, valves are cattycorner from each other, giving a swirl effect. Problem is getting the intake down the middle along with the spark plugs.

Too much trouble for general production, high end racing only.

Not sure if it's been on here before but I found a great web site about all types of engines.

I use that in the engines class I teach- LOTS of cool info. Students also seem to like this one too: http://www.animatedpiston.com/Home.htm Not as many engines, but pretty good animations!

It appears to be a stagger-valve just like the Lancia Triflux except that it's a V8. The idea behind the valve arrangement is that there are never two exhaust valves side by side, which means that there's less of a problem with heat distortion or cracking between the valve seats.

The interesting thing about the Repco is that it's based on the block of the 215 cid Buick aluminum V8 of the 1960s. It was designed by Phil Irving, who also designed the post war Vincent motorcycle engine. It was good enough to win an F1 world championship.
