2005 ktm 450 exc dual sport?

Need some advice from the asylum. A friend of mine is considering an 05 450 exc for a dual sport. I have the 500exc and we are wanting to do some camping trips. One week being the longest for now anyway.
We are both looking through threads for info on this particular bike but any advice would be great. Positives and negatives for that bike. Suggested mods, etc.
Again we are looking on here for existing threads but if you know of any please link them. I did a search for 450 exc and got zilch.
Many thanks.

Brad

There is a shitload of info posted on the RFS bikes here already.

To Summate: The 02-07 KTM RFS bikes remain to this day one of the best dual sport/enduro platforms ever made. With regular valve checks, oil changes and air filter cleanings, it will go for 50,000 mile easy.

If you want peace of mind, add an oil cooler and cush hub, but it's not needed.

I've owned the exact bike, am currently without a DS bike (bought a house and moved) but when I get back into the market, it will be the 07 version of the same bike again.

here are a couple of threads to make life easier:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201026 (long thread, use the "search this thread" feature to find specific topics)

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373580

I rode the TAT on my 07 450 (I had an 05 before this), trouble free. Here is the ride report: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=721756

For a pure dual-sport I might be more inclined towards the 525 (diff top end, otherwise same bike) but you buy what you can find a good deal on. Either way it's a fantastic dual sport bike.

If you buddy buys the bike, the RFS forum at ktmtalk.com is full of info. This forum is better for the LC4.

Good luck!
