I'm back.Well,I went swimming and that's why I was out for a while. It is boiling here and the sea is lovely. Not a good day for a ride but for a weekend time out on the beach.Last week I went to see Turkish motocross championship(Leg 4).This is the first time that I have been to motocycle challenges.I got stunning shots that I'm gonna share with you as well as some famous sights around here.
Ok, for now I'm going on with a city sightseeing in Dardanelles. THE CITY::::::::::::: Let's start with this old fountain dated back from the Ottomans. ![]() ![]() ![]() From the balcony, the city panorama at sunset ![]() ![]() ![]() I like this city because most of that authentic architectural structure has been preserved for long. ![]() ![]() ![]() Historical Turkish Bath-dated back to 1620s ![]() The worst shot among these.Hard to read.Sorry for that but I just wanted to inform you about everything. ![]() From Brad's outstanding movie ''Troy''.Presented to the city as a gift. ![]() ![]() ![]() And here is my iron horse, awaiting for me.

Hallio's Bazaar-Passage Hallio or; Aynalı Çarşı in Turkish(Bazaar with mirrors on the walls)constructed by a Jew architect in 1890.
![]() ![]() These mirrors on the walls named the bazaar for Aynalı Çarşı. ![]() Souvenirs ![]() Hubbly-bubblies which I have never tried as a non-smoker. ![]() ![]() ![]() TO THE BATTLEFIELDS AND THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA:::::::::::.. On the ferry crossing the strait to the other side. The fortress is named as ''Kilitbahir''. AIROH should send me a brand-new one after seeing this: ![]() Kilitbahir(KİLİT=lock, padlock / BAHİR=sea) the fortress representing the padlock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THIS PICTURE DESCRIBES EVERYTHING!!!!! ![]() WHO HAS EVER DARED TO UTTER SUCH SENTENCES AFTER ONE OF THE BLOODIEST WARS IN THE WORLD? These are for the Kiwis: ![]() ![]() Turkish trenches and artillaries ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shots from the battlefields.English cemeteries in the foreground,on the left. ![]() The Anzac Cove ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Martyrdom ![]() Martyrdom of Unidentified Soldier. An unidentified skull of a Turkish soldier was brought back from Australia and buried here.Since then, this cemetery has been representing those thousands of Turkish soldiers who had shed their bloods for their nation. ![]() ![]() Turkish F-16s patrolling over the Aegean ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The monument of the very first Martyrs. And they were buried just right here. The name of the monument is Settülbahir which means barrier to the sea. ![]() The monument of Sarge Sayyid who carried and loaded about 250kg-weighing cannonball. The cannonball hit the English ship named Ocean. ![]() The French Cemetery This was a road to perdition to me as the stairs were deadly in such a hot weather, but finally I managed to take some nice photos for advriders. Climbing up a hill... ![]() Cemetery is there,at the top of a hill. ![]() Am I right? ![]() ![]() Moslems fought against Moslems for nothing. This was the war for nothing:( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() NAVAL MUSEUM::::::::::::::::.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This ship named as Nusrat played a role as a minelayer and strongly influenced the course of the war. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Here we go with the most exciting part.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The war of gentlemen. So call the historians this war.Sometimes an Anzac giving some water of his own to the wounded Turkish soldier. And sometimes a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded enemy soldier... ![]() ![]() ![]() Anzac Cove ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() General GAURAND, standing(before his injury)who later lost his arm and General BAILLOUD,June 1915 in Settülbahir Fortress. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rifle presented by an English as a gift to the museum. ![]() ![]() AND THE LAST ONE WHICH DESCRIBES THIS WAR BEST::::::: ![]() Here it says: A BOTTLE HAS BEEN FOUND IN AUSTRALIA 54 YEARS LATER IT HAD BEEN THROWN DURING DARDANELLES WAR. Thrown from a landing craft. It writes as following: ''We don't know what future awaits for us.Landing starts on Tuesday.Whoever finds the letter,do please pray for all of us'' Well,I don't know how many pics I have posted.I'm tired but contented as I have now shared my photos with you.I hope you will like it. Good rides to you all. |

I've been reading your ride reports and just want to thank you for taking the time to post them. I visited Istanbul, Ankara and Meshad among others when I travelled through Turkey heading east way back in 1969
Your pics are bringing back a lot of good memories. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for a great report and pictures!
I was in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Karamursel from 1971-74. I was lucky to have a job that allowed me to travel all over Western Turkey numerous times. I loved the country, the people and the food!! I would like to travel again to Turkey on a motorcycle and enjoy the great roads and scenery again!!Lee Ullmann Rogers,AR |
