OK, it will probably never happen, but as I own a BMW K75S, and was completely floored by this beautiful Virago > Vincent Conversion, I thought maybe it would be possible to put an XV1100 engine and rear drive into a K75 upper and front frame. Both bikes use the engine as a stressed member, however, the Virago has a frame holding the swing arm and the K75 pivots off the engine/trans.

I've actually looked at both frames, and I think a skilled welder could do it. I don''t plan to use my K75. I'd buy one with a blown motor or something.

Sorry about the bad photoshopped image, but I had trouble finding a profile shot of both bikes that were about the same dimensions. I had to use the K75 owners manual profile. Anyway, what do you think?

Looks interesting! You best get finding another K75 before someone beats you to it.

I ride an XV920 Rh, the chain drive version of the Virago. I wholeheartedly approve of this progect.,

i'd also like to be there when you ride it up to bunch of narrow minded Beemerphiles. I picture a similtaious about face , shunning for you.

Thanks guys. I'm still looking at the two frames and trying to figure if I can get the front top engine mount of the Virago onto the BMW K frame. It's probably easier to make that mount out of plate steel and clone the angle.

Another idea is to use the Virago frame unaltered and graft the K upper tank and seat frame onto it. However, I like the strength and build quality of the K75 frame. The K bike gas tank is really cool and begs for use on Cafes / Street Trackers / Street Fighters. Other than modded K bikes, I haven't seen one used. They do house an electric fuel pump, so that's likely one drawback for universal use.

Low mileage XV1100s are common - I've seen several for a little over $2k. Cheap, undented K75s aren't as easy to come by. I had this in mind for a winter project anyway, so I'll take my time.

One more thing - if I go through with it, no way am I using those hideous Virago pipes.

This thread lacks empty beer cans and spent cut-off disks.

Aside from that it seems like a great way to make a beemer reliable and cheaper/faster to fix lol.
