I hope it's all good to go. Looking forward to more of your explorations!

(p.s. that's why I even do valve checks just before an oil change...to immediately extract any incidental contaminants from having covers off)

Hi you'all! Yep, I am in the South, Jessup Georgia to be exact.
I left Steven and his family on October 30th. Hugged the kids and Steven goodbye in the morning as he went to work, and the kids to school. His kids are adorable! His daughter made me an album filled with peace signs, cause she knew I liked them. She even put a picture of her and her brother in it. His son kept saying he didn't want me to go. :(
I packed up Spirit and headed for Easley to see Anna at her store. It was her first day open.

I even purchased a little gadget I had had my eyes on for a while.
I said goodbye to her and her mom.
Leaving was pretty hard, I had grown quite fond of this family, they made me feel very welcome, and I was glad that I was there to help Anna with getting her store ready.
I also swung by the motorcycle shop in Easley to return the HondaBond4 the guy let me "borrow". I wished I had know about this place earlier, I would have had him put my bearings in.
He was closed on Wednesday, so what does a girl do when confronted with a situation like this? She gets out a Ziptie and zipties the HondaBond to the door handle! Haha, hope it was there when he opened again the next day.
It felt weird being on the road again. I had no other destination than South on my mind, it was cold!

The further South I got the less yellow leaves there were.

I had my mind set on finding a state park, to ease myself back into the "not sure where I will be camping" mode.
The map showed a town called Aiken, and a state park nearby so that's where I decided to head. Aiken was lovely, a historic town too. No pictures though seeing as I was still wearing my winter gloves, and those make it hard to take pictures with. I was to frozen to take them off!
I found the campsite and saw the day use was $2. Yay, great! There was no price for the night use, but I figured it couldn't be that much more.
The ranger was not in the office, so I pitched my tent and went to sleep.

Getting tired of seeing my tent yet?

They showed up the next morning and told me it was $18.50 for the night! Yikes! I told them they should post their fee up front, so a person could decide wether or not to pay that much for a site.
I left pretty late seeing it was cold and I felt very sluggish.
The sun started to warm up the place and made the road out look magical

I headed toward Georgia and at one point saw this!

Cotton!!!!!
Wow! I'd never seen cotton plants before, other than in movies.
I quickly pulled Spirit into the grass and parked her. I had to take some pictures, and most of all, I really wanted to touch the cotton, and experience what it felt like.
Very, very soft! Way more than cotton balls you purchase at a store. It felt almost silky, and very slick. Awesome!!

Be glad I didn't post 20 more of these! They were so beautiful!

Court house in Allendale
At a gas station near Georgia a local guy struck up a conversation with me, and he mentioned Highway 301 through Georgia. The gals at the store said to stop by the tourist info as I entered, seeing as they had free maps. Everyone was very interested in Spirit and I, and very helpful.

On the bridge between South Carolina and Georgia. Basically nowhere nameable!
Not sure what that contraption on the left is...... turnable bridge of sorts?

Why did they put that little reflector sign in front of the welcome to Georgia sign?
It says, Welcome to Georgia, We're glad Georgia is on your mind.

I rode 301 till I hit Lake Wood near Jessup, where a local guy had said there was a camp ground.
I rode past it and ended up bumping into a couple of guys in a truck whom I asked where the camp ground was.
They said turn right after the bridge, at the trailers, and follow the dirt road down. You'll see the camp ground on the right.
Well...............................
I ended up in nowhere land on sandy roads. I was scared shitless, again!
Luckily the sand wasn't too deep, and underneath was solid. At one point I hit a stretch of high rocks and plowed through them. Patting myself on the back here!
I almost camped out there, but it didn't feel right. There were a zillion no trespassing signs posted.
I headed back, through the rocks and sand and bumped into another truck with two guys. They told me I had missed the camp ground.
I must be blind!!!
Rode back over the rail road tracks and saw a road down the left. Didn't see a sign but saw trailers, and RVs.
Yay! Turns out that the campground was only $5 for a tent, and had the most wonderful bathroom I have yet encountered.

A very spacious room!

Washing machines and dryers, tables with games and puzzles..... wow!

I pitched my tent, ate dinner, and took a long hot shower!

I had promised a couple of guys there to swing by afterward and hang with them, but it turned out they weren't there. Secretly I was glad, I was tired and wonted nothing more than to crash.
One of the guys woke me at 11 to give me a Powerade. He seemed surprised I was asleep already, and not willing to come by anymore. Jee Wiz!!

I slept on and off, seeing as there was a rail road track right next to the campground. Now I know why it was only $5!
The night was cold, but my sleeping bag kept me warm. Thanks again Robert!
The morning was chilly but beautiful!

The trees fascinated me, the growth on them was pretty, yet erie at night.

Made myself some coffee, traveling style! Glad there are rubber bands in the world :loll

I left camp at 11, and headed for Jessup knowing there was a McDonalds there.
So here I am, having caught up with my ride report, and eager to hit the road South to Florida!

Wonderful ride report, I've been on board since the get go.

Just an FYI, Georgia has the most expensive state park camping among the surrounding five states. You can check the rates for any state park on line for all states.

Be safe.

Glad to see you traveling again and are doing well, seeing more new and wonderful things. It made me smile as you described stopping to take pictures of the cotton as well as to feel it. I did the same thing years ago the first time I saw cotton growing. It's so much fun seeing things through your eyes. Thanks for sharing.

Keep riding safely.

I had a very good day yesterday and a very interesting night!

My Dad kept telling me that I should make it to the coast so that I could finally say that I rode from coast to coast.
So to honor him I decided to go see Jekyll island.

Wow, is that a bridge? Hmmm, wonder if I have to go over that one, looks pretty high!

Mackinaw all over again, I wonder if it's pavement?

Wow! Awesome!!!

Yep I did pull over, I just had to take a picture of this bridge. Very stylish!!

The entrance of Jekyll island. Fancy! Smells like money!
Guess what I ran into?
payment booth, $6.00 for parking. Well, seeing as I had no intention to park, I decided to ride around the beam.
I AM getting more daring!

Made it to Jekyll Island! Yaya! Coast to coast the roundabout way

No words needed!
Guess I lied, I did park if just for a couple of minutes

More Spanish Moss (Thanks Knybanjo)

Full on shot of the bridge from Jekyll Island

I decided to keep on going on Hwy 17/25 and go South.

Made it to Florida!!!

After such a wonderful ride I stopped at McD again to find out if there was a camping place nearby.
Found a State forest campground called Cary State Forest Park. yay, only half an hour away.
I hit 301 again not too much later and aimed for the park.

Well........... I could not find it for the life of me. I even stopped at a fire station, but nobody was there.
So I headed back into the general direction that the map showed and turned right on a forest road, thinking that I had to be in the park. They were working on the road, and I gather they took the signs down.
After just a few minutes the dirt road hit some very sandy patches. It was getting dark, and I was definitely not in my comfort zone anymore!
On top of that I saw lots of swampy water to the left and right of the path. First thought in my mind????????
Alligators!
I kept riding thinking soon enough I had to hit the camp ground. But after a while it started getting dark and I decided to just stop at a nice little grassy patch on the side of the dirt road, and pitched my tent.
Of course as soon as my tent is up, my dad calls, and I had to lie to him and tell him that I was at a camp ground.
He worries, and last night rightfully so. Sorry dad!
I take it that I was really close to the camp ground but my timing was off.
I made dinner and watched half of a movie and went to bed.

Of course my faithful nemesis (my mind) came up with all kinds of alligator scenarios, and I finally told myself to shut up, again! As I laid there I could not hear much of anything other than the distant rumbling of trucks on the road, and an occasional train. It was very quiet, and cold. I figured alligators don't move much when it is near freezing.
I fell asleep and woke up occasionally. Once I heard some strange animal sound, but wasn't sure what it was.

Woke up at 7:30 and was curious what my surrounding looked like so I got up. Brrrrrrrr.

Awesome!!

The moon was still up!

Hmmmm, yep! Some sort of animal, like a big kitty cat?

Gorgeous!

I made myself some coffee and packed up my junk.
It took a while to dry off my tent, but the sun was out in full force, so it didn't take too long.
I rode back through the sand, once I had to put my foot down to keep Spirit upright, but I did pretty good if you neglect the fact that my heart was all the way up in my throat!

Got to McDonalds and had my oatmeal and wrote my report.
This time I will take my time to see where there might be a campground down South.
No more alligator worries, too nerve wrecking!

Spirit got a lot of admirers this morning
