that would have been been a good idea my room had two beds, a single and a double, private bathroom, hammock out side and about 50 feet from that beach - hope you have a good imagination

^^ That seems so strange from when I crossed that same border in 2010. The aduana and insurance *edit- on the Costa Rican side- were just the opposite places than what you listed, insurance was right there in the little building across from the immigration building. I was also too lazy to do the walking and just drove over to the aduana (the place where you got your insurance)

Ended up meeting up with Alberto and Naomi too for a short visit.

We got hosed too

i did these border in the other direction last year and don't remember the new big building on the CR side, they had finger scans and xrays for luggage in this building...it is all very organized now

the place where i did my insurance yesterday was used for something else last year, but i did go in that building for about 3 hours with a room full of truckers...insurance was over by the migration when i went thru near the ATM

you'd like it now its was gravy....

left the beach in Nicaragua early to head to the border, had a real easy crossing and the plan was to grab some gas before crossing but i didn't see a place so in CR i filled up on super at 688 colons a liter or $5.05 a gallon

moments later i was stopped by the cops, i was struggling to hold my bike upright in a crazy strong side wind and they wanted to tell me the wind was blowing and be careful, behind them in the distance there were dozens of wind turbines, blurring with the speed they were spinning

you notice straight away Costa Rica has more money just by simple things like massive rolls of bundled hay plastic wrapped in fields, more organized than its neighbors to the north

my plan was to head to Bijagua to the Vista Point B&B (from Sjoerds book on CA) it looked like a good distance from the border and was heading in the right direction, so out towards the volcanoes away from the coast and towards the looming black clouds

sadly this place is closed down, so i had to flip a U turn and back track towards Lake Arenal and look for a new place, i found a dirt track short cut

the dirt track ended up being a road to a wind farm

eventually it got me back towards the lake where the rain clouds were a few feet above the water and the rain came...time to find a cheap, sadly not Nicaragua cheap, hotel

Man, that was fast. There are tons of category specific picture threads that you have appropriate pics for and it's hard to even know they exist let alone follow them all. I just happened to have have viewed that thread just before catching up on yours and thought how much better/more appropriate your shot was than most of them in the thread, right down to and including the positioning of the ADV sticker on your bike.

Thanks for taking us along on your trip and all the great pics.

glad to have you along,

i'm sitting in a hotel room in Costa Rica listening to the rain pound on the roof while waiting for some friends who did the other crossing over into Costa Rica (post above), customs have their bike impounded until they present insurance...so here i am with a killer wifi connection, playing with photos and trying to finish a book i am writing...being on the road is not all about riding the bike you know

if you think of other threads let me know and i'll add photos, i have kind of got away from having the bike in photos recently

Paul , Great way of describing the crossings by using the yellow letters over the said location.
