Anyone put their board on their bike?

I saw a guy riding the other day with a bicycle almost over head in a rack contraption. You've gotta make sure you don't fly away with a surf board :)

I've seen quite a few people over here (Australia) with their surfboards slung on the side of their pushbikes. And quite a few who've got the same thing going with their scooters. But, no-one on a motorbike.

Saw two KLRs at a beach hostel in Nicaragua a few years ago that both had surfboard racks. That was before I knew about ADV. Talked to them for a few hours. They had them custom fabricated in Guatemala. Looked like two big U shaped hooks made from steel channel. They had ridden down from Canada. I was inspired and took my first big trip later that year (10,000 miles).

Do I even want to know how a bike with a surf board atteched to it handles in strong winds ?

Cool! I think I could make something similar for my 950.
Long or shortboard?

I made a surfboard carrier in 1980 for my Honda CX500 in shop class. It went on the right hand side. It handled fine in the wind. I lived at the coast so of coarse it was windy. The Problem was that my right leg went between the bike and
the board, twice I fell during sudden panic stops in coast traffic to the right, both at a full stop and thankfully my board was never injured. The photo's are packed away but the memories remain. It was great summer...

yea it works pretty good. It's a 6ft board. I think anything longer and I'll need to redesign it so it won't snap in half.

So, with a longboard, I could strap one end of it to the pannier and the other to the front fork. I'd be ok so long as I didn't turn.
