Any good MX lap timers that are reasonable?

Anybody know of a reliable lap timer that will work well on a motocross track?. GPS or transponder based, I don't really care as long as it works but I did try a GPS Android app (Trackmaster) for my phone which didn't work very well, possibly because of a weak GPS signal at the track.

Will a Garmin Forerunner work for you? I use one and as long as the lanes aren't too close together it has a mode that will automatically create a new lap as you pass over the same point that you were when you pressed "start". So basically, get set up and press "start", do 10 laps or whatever, without thinking about it, and each lap will be recorded.

It will show lap times, max speed, average speed, average lap, best lap, etc. As a bonus, you also get heart rate, calories burned, total distance, and other workout stats.

I doubt its lap accuracy is race quality, but is probably good enough to track whether you are improving or not.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 405CX. Nice feature is that it automatically uploads to your computer and the garmin web site producing a work-out summary page when it gets within range of your computer.

Sample output: this is a hare scramble race but should give you an idea of it.

I forgot to press "stop" after the race, so that "4th" lap is actually just me going back to my EZ-up until I remembered to turn it off.
