Ultimate GPS
Well if the rumors are true about Apple coming out with a seven inch iPad then I think the ultimate GPS unit has arrived. I have a 550 that works great but a larger screen would be nice with aged eyesite. I can't see spending $800 for a new 665. I have the Garmin app on my iPhone that works beautifully. Hopefully the app will a available for the new iPad. Would be nice to integrate a GPS and everything I use a computer on the road for with a single unit. If so, it shouldn't be long before someone makes a waterproof case for it.

I tried this with the full size iPad in my map case on top of tank bag. Screen is not bright enough for prime time use. Not that my Zumo 550 screen is all that great, but I can read it in most conditions. In a waterproof case seeing the iPad screen may be a challenge. The interface also does not lend itself to operation on a bike, especially with gloves, critical for me when interacting with GPS function on the go.
I use my iPad extensively to do route planning when having a cup of coffee, but I rely on the Zumo on the go. One day this may change, but not yet..... I did use my iPhone as a backup GPS (with Navigon app, now owned by GARMIN) when my Zumo took a dump on recent Euro trip. Worked great, went on tank bag when raining.

Will it operate in the temperature extremes experienced while motorcycling, especially when inserted into a clear case under direct sunlight? (Check the iPad temp ranges)

Don't know but my iPhone worked great out in Moab at over a hundred degrees. Hoping it will work so I can use one item instead of a separate gps, camera, computer for email, and basic movie editing. Would be nice.

even if they made it waterproof, shockresistant, high luminosity, bluetooth, usable with winter gloves, and xm traffic capable, preloaded with all north america maps, I still wouldn`t buy it because of itunes.
