Photos: Your bike at a fire lookout.
We have fire lookouts galore in up here in Northern California. Each lookout varies in style-wood, metal, stilts, no stilts, in nice shape, about to fall down. Lately we have been riding the Husqvarnas up for a gander.
How do they look in your neck of the woods? Here are a few in our area. Colby Mountain Lookout in Tehama County. ![]() Sardine Peak Lookout in the Tahoe area. ![]() Don Landon/Green's Peak Lookout in Lassen County.

I climbed up this old raggedy thing one freezing night in the old former mining town of Gagnon, Quebec where the streets are all that is left.
![]() ![]() The floor was half rotted out and one of the guy lines was snapped but I made up: ![]() Climbed back up in the morning for the sunrise but it was crappy weather. It's about in the middle of nothing Quebec

Bully Choop Lookout. (Bully Choop - Bald Face). Heap big mountain SE of Weaverville CA. A local firefighter was up there caretaking... in the photos.
The lookout is only manned (by firefighters) during thunder-storm forecasts. You can see a long ways off (Shasta in NE View)... and it's a great ride up there. ![]() And the view... to the Central Valley ![]() View Northeast...

This one is Antelope Mountain in Lassen National Forest, built in 1978. Probably the closest one to our house. It is at 7681 ft and was the first solar powered fire lookout in the US.
We rode up last week. It is covered in snow now. ![]() The view of Eagle Lake, famous for world class trout fishing. We have watched this lake recede 12 ft in the last 15 years.

May 2011 5096.28 Oct 2011 5096.8 It is a bummer to see the Eagle Lake so low. You would think it might have filled back up after the long winter we had in Nor-Cal.

Was at Eagle as a kid on summer vacation. Lovely place.
Trinity Lake went full this summer, and pretty much stayed through the summer. Let's hope for a decent winter. |

there are many "signal peaks"
http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=26161
Back in the day...'78...It took me 7 tries over a period of several days/attempts to reach signal peak going straight up the jeep trail. Alone and riding a 1976 KE125, there was much clutch slipping and running along side the bike to get over the tough spots. ![]() Now a days with a cell towers above it on red mountain, there's a regular decent jeep trail cut into the mountain. This allows all types of "lawn mowers" up there. ![]() Built in the early 1900's it was used to spot fires in the wooden tunnels caused by the steam locomotives climbing the sierras. Reportedly the site of the first telephone system west of the mississippi before the stone structure was built and when the shack was wood. ![]() Went up there at 12 midnight once in november to watch meteor showers, but was foiled by the city lights shinning like a biosphere over Tahoe, Reno, Sacramento, Yuba City, Stockton, ECT ![]() ![]() Signal Peak, California 7841 feet, 2390 meters

Fire Watch Towers
Just stumbled across this thread. I did a two day tour of the Fire Watch Towers in SE New Mexico's Sacramento Mountians. It is a large uprising out of the desert with elevations from the desert floor @ 4300 ft. up to Cloudcroft NM @ 8600 ft. It reminds me of back home in Colorado, and it makes me feel right @ home cruizing around looking for all the towers scattered about the region. Here's one of a few.
