Hey jeventures, thanks for the kind words and the de-lurking.
I'm so glad you're inspired to do more 2up!

Thanks, M!
Haha, you guys don't have to watch any more Umtanum Ridge - didn't you get the memo?
I'm over it.
Making everyone watch that crazy mameshiba dance thing made me feel better.

(tl;dr makes me want to say "FU; FO" but I don't think you meant it like that )

They're Japanese. I don't think I really "get" them either...
I started seeing Mameshiba around 2009, they’re popular with the crafty ladies.
They’re cute and strange. That’s about all I know.
I can give you this video...

For those of you who can't watch the video:

Not quite a dog (mame), not quite a bean (shiba)
Mameshiba is the cutest thing you've ever seen.
...
No matter where they are (mame), no matter what they do (shiba),
Mameshiba always brings knowledge to you...

That ought to explain everything, right?

OK, here’s more info - but you have to read.

stolen from this website.

You can learn more about each character on this page.
If I had to pick one, I'd say I'm like pistachio.
Well, and jellybeans, obviously.

You guys,
The WTF videos are just part of my process. You shouldn't try and "get" most of them...
When I have thousands of photos and hours of GoPro footage to sort through,
I get tired of doing these stupid reports and I like to have something to amuse myself.
If others enjoy them, then it's even
better.
You really don't have to watch them!

No one has to watch anything! Not even that boring Umtanum Ridge video.
I'm not even checking the view count.

Yay - sion, redog1, dustyrider!
Thanks for the support!
I think I've used most of the good Mameshibas, but I still have a few left...

Day 46: 8/6/12
Horseshoe Lake to Walla Walla, WA 246 miles

Today we finished up the WABDR.
Our rear tire was smoked, so we cut out the last 60 miles or so, missing the official start at Stevenson.
Both Radek and Adventurerik said that Section 1 is mostly pavement and easy gravel,
and that we shouldn’t feel bad about skipping it.

Section 1 video, here.
Did you know ( you have to say it in that cute mameshiba voice)...
all the helmet cam footage in those videos is from Radek (black/white/gold helmet)?
Also, Superman is half Canadian.

Oh, wait - it's supposed to be something off-putting...
Did you know a slug has 4 noses?

Neither one of us slept well last night.
Our neighbors were loud and stayed up late.
I thought there were 5-6 of them, but Matt says he only saw 3.
My air mattress is leaking now, too.

I think we were out of oatmeal.
Old Cliff bars for breakfast.

Flattering photo of Horseshoe Lake.

The roads today were pretty much like this (or pavement)

Thank goodness for Mount Adams.
He gave us something to look at.

We rode by some graffiti that made us laugh so hard,
Matt turned around and went back so I could take a photo...

Oh, looking around, I see that’s a Mötley Lüe song.

I kinda wish I didn’t know that.
It takes away from the funny.

I think Matt said the wabdr tracks went to the right...
Like I mentioned, it was only 60 miles or so.
We kept going towards Walla Walla instead.
Bye, WABDR!

Now it was just boring slab to Walla Walla...

Saw a couple murals in White Salmon

I liked this one.

Going to Hood River, Oregon.

We were sad we missed Radek and his girlfriend.

I couldn’t get over the bridge toll - 75 cents for motos! A dollar for cars.
We pay about $5 (same as a car) in the bay area.

Pic for the train nerds.

Stopped at a rest stop and saw this bus.

Thanks to the interwebs, I see it belongs to this idiot.
He’s a rapper from Cleveland, Ohio.
I found a video tour of the bus.
Here he is, talking about a bag of a condoms they have on the bus...

All I wanted was a funny screen shot,
but watching just a little bit of that video made me seriously depressed and a little suicidal.
He was born in 1990 and makes 1.2 million dollars.
Good thing the end of the world is coming soon. Just 2 short months!

Here’s a dam picture!

And another dam picture!

Stopped for refueling.

Tires

Bike wash.
So we don’t have to look for one in Walla Walla.

Tree farm. I’m sure they’re destined to be toothpicks or something.

Walla Walla, here we come!

What?
How could you have already forgotten?
End of the world, 2012.
They told us 4 years ago...

Gotta hurry up and finish the ride report!

Day 46: 8/6/12 continued
Horseshoe Lake to Walla Walla, WA 246 miles

Cute burros. I wish that little one had been standing up, not taking a nap...

They were doing road work up ahead. Great.

It was so hot in the sun, we moved over next to this truck.
Ahhh. Shade.

These nice (they were really friendly) Harley people asked if they could share our shade.
Of course!
I cringed at their bare skin, roasting in the sun...

A KLR zoomed by and went to the head of the line.
The Harley people decided to cut in front, too - and convinced us to come with them...
We don't normally do that, but it ended up making sense.
Going on this road behind trucks would have been even worse.

So, it turns out the crew was chip sealing the road and doing a horrible job of it.
It was super hot outside and the gravel wasn’t sticking.

As soon as we hit this stuff, the rest of the bikes freaked out.
They all slammed on the brakes.
OMG! GRAVEL!!!!

Not only was the road surface uneven, but the rocks were flying everywhere.
Tar-covered rocks.

Even the KLR guy rode on the wrong side, trying to avoid the gravel.

Matt and I were all, whatevs...
Gravel, schmavel...

It was annoying, but it's not like those little tiny pebbles were going to smash our lights or anything.
We're used to riding with serious rock chuckers.

I felt so bad for the Harley people.
Those tar smears aren’t going to come off with a diaper!
Not to mention, the rocks probably hurt like hell on bare skin.
We could feel them through our jackets (840 denier Cordura) and they stung.

Pretty soon, it was just us and the pilot car.
See all the gravel flying?

Gravitycheck had told us this was a really pretty ride.
He went this way after we said goodbye to him in the Summer of Stupid.
I think he needs to get out more...
(he sold his 950 by the way. It makes me really sad. )

Maybe it was pretty, but mostly I was worried about our rear tire...

Back in Washington. Ooh. I almost missed my chance to use that one!

That's a little marina!

Washington wine is soooo awesome!

So flat! Is this what Kansas is like?

Speaking of flat, here’s the McD where Gravitycheck had his flat tire.
We stopped to use the wifi and book a motel room.
oh, and *possibly* some ice cream cones were had...

Matt is supposed to be shivering in this picture. Acting!

I couldn’t find a good clip for the Master Thespian, but there’s this...

Anyway, this is what the sign said. I think it’s a few degrees off, but still...
Mucking HOT!

We got a good deal at the Holiday Inn Express.
Rode past this place on the way there...
Um. Doesn’t that mean “The Cheap Meatmarket?”

Hey, Mr. Peanut!
I took a photo of him last time we were in Walla Walla.

Here we are.
The Holiday Inn Express...<------- Dead Kennedys, "holiday in cambodia" Can't find one without an ad. You decide if it's worth it...

Tires.

No idea how many miles were on the MT21 (we put 1136 on it, but not sure how many Radek did)

3429 miles on the front.

Our luggage, gettin’ a fancy ride...

Ugh, look at all the tar-covered rocks that got into the bash plate!

Our room.

Coffee maker area.

Norman.

Did a quick check on Yelp and found some Thai food...linky

It was delicious.
Yellow curry with chicken and Pad Kee Mow noodles.

Matt had fried bananas with coconut ice cream for dessert.

I had the black rice pudding.
It doesn’t look very appetizing in the photo, but it was pretty tasty.

This one fits here nicely...

Less than a week left!

They probably would like to charge a dollar but enjoy watching adventure riders fumble with gloves trying to get quarters!

Yum!

Hey Big Wan,

We have something in common, (other than being big galoots) ................... coconut ice cream! I love the stuff too!
(maybe that's part of why we are big galoots)

When I get to travel around the Yucatan Peninsula of MX I'll find fresh home made coconut ice cream everywhere. Sometimes they'll have dark chocolate to pour over it. It's so good that if you spill any on your face ............... your tongue would beat your brains out trying to get to it! It's THAT good!

Better find a new tire quick, huh?

Enjoying following along with you and the Missus!

Regards, Rob

gulp. Sorry, was just trying to be funny, not jerky. Anyway thanks for the mameshiba background intro...

By the way, in case you couldn't tell--I think your ride report is awesome. I think my ride report writin' days are over, they'd just be too plain boring.

I blew up one of my other photos. Looks like they're GreenWood farm trees, so they must be
poplar.
They'll be used for "window and door frames, cabinets, picture frames,
veneers, crown moldings, venetian window blinds, wood pallets and door cores"

Also, RV interiors.
It sounds like originally they planned to export most of the wood,
but since then fuel costs have made the shipping super expensive.
That was in 2008. No idea what they're doing now...

from this
article.

haha, yep. They might get pennies, though!

hey, ROAD DAMAGE!
nice try luring Matt out with ice cream talk!
That would normally work, but he's just swamped right now. Hectic week.
Suffice it to say, he rarely passes up ice cream in any country.

No worries, HWD!
In fact, I meant to send you a PM about that...
I was trying to be funny (not jerky) in my response, too. Thanks for reading and caring enough to ask.
Mameshiba are weird and confusing, I know.

Here's a giant one in a Japanese department store...

I want one, though!

Wow! Intense! I didn't think I would ever catch up. You were posting faster than I could follow.

A few thank-you's are in order.

First, thanks for the response regarding your rims. Makes a lot of sense and mirrors what I've experienced. I'm still trying to tweak the stock suspension before I shell out for Superplush.

Second, thanks for all the effort posting this RR. I've done a few, abbreviated ones and know how much time they take. I can't imagine the hours you've put into this. Love the combination of photos, video, very entertaining text, and the weird extras you post.

Finally, thanks for posting a couple of spills and falls. Nice to know you and Matt are human after all. Well, maybe not human, but not full blown Mount Olympus gods either. Demi-gods (e.g. Hercules)? The single track where you had to flip the 990 around was my favorite, though the balancing act to get to the bridge (Canada?) was a close second. Awesome trip.

More posts on the way??

If the WANs don't go for a ride what are we going to read when we are supposed to be doing important things? You know things that we should be doing but we're not, because we are learning important lessons about Memeshiba and clinking on wacky links. Totally ignoring other important things , like work.
