letters on tourance tires ?

i have just bought '04 dl650 and it needs new tires. my choise is metzeler tourance but i dont have much experience so i am little bit confused with the letters on it.

the front tire size is 110/80VR/-19

the rear tire size is 150/70R-17

is there any difference between R and VR. in another word can i use these tires together..

thank you in advance

Others will give additional info but in a nut shell, the "V" is the speed rating of the tire.

The ratings involve speed and how safe the tire is at that speed. (Higher speeds build more heat. A higher speed rated tire will be able to handle more heat.)

The tradeoffs include the time it takes for the tire to warm up. (Until a tire is warmed up it will not provide maximum traction.)

So, on your bike, save the money and buy tires without the higher speed rating and save yourself some money.

Both tires should have the same speed rating.

I am taking the advice of all those people that told me, "Hey kid, why don't you go play in traffic!"
