Thumb 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R with delivery in March/April

Just sold my 2010 BMW R 1200 GS and have put a deposit down on a from Go AZ Motorcycles. I'm new to AZ. Put on 22K miles with the 1200GS two-track, fire-roads, etc. The only thing I didn't sell was a GL Great Basin Saddlebag, GoPro camera and my double-take mirrors. I sold my Jesse luggage, Garmin 660 GPS, +++. I intend to use the 690 R for dual sport riding and short duration off-pavement camping rides. Will start studying the 690 R, ADVrider's threads for farkle such as GPS, luggage systems incl. racks & tank bag, tanks, tire & tire systems, tail/front LED turn signals, lighting, seat, foot pegs, skid plate, bike stand to name a few things.

If anyone has specific suggestions especially relating to 2014 model, I'm all ears .

As owner of both, you'll be sorry you sold your GS. So completely different riding styles, you will soon discover the 690, although about the best overall "true" dual sport, it falls short on any highway section unless you are going slow with minimal gear. I ride my 690 only on 80% or more dirt trips and my GS on everything else. Doing the AZ discovery on the GS next month. 100% off-road.

Do buy the Giant Loop Coyote for luggage. Everything else will cause your grief if you ride it like it's intended.
2014 KTM 690 Enduro R, 2014 EXC500, 2012 BMW GTL1600 and 16 other motorcycle projects in various stages of completion. It's an addiction thing.

The 690 can do long trips on highway with lots of luggage with no problems - as long as you upgrade the seat. I used Seat Concepts for foam and cover and got it fitted professionally. The 690 is economical too. Put the KTM hard parts touring screen on and a Touratech screen spoiler. Soft luggage racks and you're all set to go around the world.

I've done 75-85 mph for 10-12hrs a day fully loaded, and never felt discomfort or that the bike couldn't cope easily with what was being asked of it.

You might be better off getting a used '12 or '13 rather than the '14 (the '14 currently cannot connect to TuneECU for map changes. That is a serious fault imho).
