Calabogie Boogie vs. Corduroy Enduro - added pics from Cord

I've ridden the Boogie a couple times and can ride all the expert legs. I am considering doing the Cord this year and am curious how it compares to the Boogie?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Ted.

I've decided to give it a go. Did a bunch of reading at the ODSC site. http://www.odsc.on.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18136

My riding partner for the Cord just bought Flanny's 300XCW.

Had Kevin in Kemptville do my wheels. A very nice guy.

Rob

A fantastic ride and honestly probably the toughest riding I've ever done. It was grueling. Some of the obstacles just make you say WTF???!!! The pros were amazing. Eating and hydrating during the ride is crucial. On Sunday I took in about 2000 calories during the ride.

Got passed by Chris Birch in some tight single track and he was flying. On Sat. I had some issues so had to stop about 40k before the end. Finished on Sunday, [edit: just looked again at my scoring and I came in under the limit on Sunday!]. It was my first Enduro and I will definitely do more. Great atmosphere and scenery. Tons of great volunteers who make it all happen.

I remember at one point riding along a timed section and I hadn't seen a rider in 10 minutes or more. Then, I come across a couple of riders sitting on their bikes. As I pull up beside them, at the approach to a gully crossing maybe 10 metres down and 15 metres up on the ohther side, I realize they are figuring out what to do. It's all torn up from about a 100 bikes, nothing but roots and rocks and 3 guys struggling to get one bike up at a time. Another guy tries to do it alone and ends up underneath his bike pinned to a tree.

How about those ladders, and 'bridges'?

it was pretty soupy out there this year - the last two have been way drier!

You never mentioned the 100s of waterholes on the first day! Burnt river was nothing compared to the mystery puddles - could be 6 inches - could be 30 I count 3 drowned bikes before I even got to the first check.

Those bogs in the long and second last timed section on saturday were killers! took the easy way out and just launched my bike over it, the 400 made it across, I didn't but at least I was not one of those guys standing in 2 feet of mud wondering what the hell to do now! I got a DNF for the weekend which sucked but I'm not there to make money from it...

Last year I kept getting passed by Bobby P as I was riding on number 8, this year I was back in the 30 so never got to see Chris - but I did eat dinner with him - cool guy but he kept dropping the worst farts... those kiwis.

I am still nursing a few injuries - the stiff wrist (hit a tree) is making me think twice about doing the ganny this weekend - looks like the 400 is done for this year.

What were you riding? I was possibly at that point beside a guy on a DRZ. I was on a white Husky. At that point there were 3 bikes stuck in the anti tank ditch in the gully blocking every possible line!

Hat's off to all you guys who rode the Cord. I was there as a spectator on Friday, watched the pros go up that wet, rock hill-climb section on Green's Mountain (insane), and then again at the next observation point (somebody's cottage deck).

Birch and Wojo (and others of course) are so smooth they (almost) make it look easy (NO F*ING WAY!!!!!!!!)

That is a tough race.
