SA Adv Riders - show us you and your bike!

Hi guys, a pic of my GS and some more if anyone's interested. Taken in the Cederberg Mountains on route from Ceres to Calvinia, awesome riding, awesome mountains. There were 21 bikes, mostly Africa Twins though.

More pics available here:

Kevin, these photos are quite old arent they? In fact, you were my first saved bookmark way back early this year for the same website and pics. I was considering getting a 1200 back then, so it was right up top on mybookmarks.

Correct? Cool, and post more piccies.

Hey Kevin, did you ride with gps's in the Cederberg? If so, what mapping software did you use?

Cheers

Hi Hein, no GPS is necessary, we managed without one, a good map is all you need. A friend of mine, Carl on a Triumph Tiger had a Garmin GPS that mapped the route, it was more interesting to see our route afterwards, over a beer than any need to know where we were at the time. Although with that said, one of the riders did fall and hurt himself bad and it was very useful to see where the nearest town was to go and get help.

I'm not Kevin the Candyman, but was also on that trip. It's not a long stretch if you're on an African Twin :) Some of the guys filled up at Wuppertal, but I did not and had no problem reaching Calvinia. Don't know about the 1200GS, but I know the 1150 goes further on a tank than my AT.

McD,

May I offer a suggestion - take along a spare can of gas - the peace of mind is incredible knowing you are going to make it nonetheless, and strap it onto the back of your panniers. That way it will be safe from a tumble, or any stray rocks that you plan on kicking up as you wind your way through el remoteness

Pissed Last of the South African 1150 ADV,s

I was at the BMW Lifestyle centre in Midrand yesterday, strangely the last few Adventures they have left are in Bumble Bee colours, i.e. black with a black and yellow seat, not the blue and white final model they have in Europe, they still look great in those colours though, maybe I am biased as those are the colours of my 99 GS (without the yellow seat).

Welshman

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just f#ck off and leave me alone.

Wicked Me and my scooter in motion.......

Photos were taken by Candyman. Thanks buddy. I was just messing about and he came to take some snaps after doing some riding himself. It was raining as well so very dark.

I still have much to learn though.

awwww I wish I had my dad to go riding with, it would be SOOOOOOO kick ass, you are blessed Joker, you are blessed. Tell him you love him so that when you are seperated, you'll be happy to have let him know how ya feel.

Ok, Oprahs finished now. So, this weekend is on, lets go have some fun. PM your cell/email, lets confirm later today for a ride 2mrw and Sundays Grabouw. We are confirmed to there too.

Cheers - you ride with a pillion to Grabouw? And in the sand at West Beach? If you can, cool, because I will certainly bring mine then, it sharpens up the skills a TON.

Cheers, George
