On the other hand, I have read many references to test riders short shifting the cb1100 to keep the revs down, and the bike doesn't mind it one bit. You could really squeeze out the MPG if you had to, like, say, on a long trip.

But, most of the time, why would you have to? It's really a toy, and I'd like to wring it out a bit.

I dont care for the stripes on the tank, and I wish the tank held at least .6 gallon more, but those are my only nit piks without having one in the garage to try, which should be cured in about 26 days or so

I dont expect tire life to be all that good..8-10,000 miles with the stock tires, but if the bike is popular enough others will be avilable and replacements should be better

I still haven't been able to find out if it runs on regular grade gas. If it doesn't that would be another nit pik for me.

It runs on Regular Gas. That has already been established.

Thats good news. Figured it would but have not seen it published anywhere. My ST requires premium. Besides being more expensive, a lot of stations around here are not carrying premium anymore.

THe only gripe I have is that I've got too many motorized toys and there's no way I will be buying one anytime soon. Not a bad problem to have, but the first time I see one in person I have a feeling I will need to have one.

I was looking through a manual last night and it said 91 octane. Granted this as an Aussie manual. One other small thing is the battery is 12v and 11AH. That is kinda dinky isnt it? Another note of interest in the Aussie manual was that there was basically no break in. The manual just read something like take it easy for 300 miles and no reference to rpms, speed or anything else.

10K on tires would be good by me. Im sure the stock ones are not the best but I could live with this. The aftermarket tires usually are always better all the way around.

There is a point of diminishing returns though. I've got two older dual purpose bikes that hardly ever get ridden, and could use some work. My ZRX is great but will need new chain & sprockets this year, and I've been putting off installing a starter chain tensioner fix. As well as looking into a slightly slipping clutch. Then there's the pair of ATVs, both of which are due for valve adjustments. Don't even get me started on the snowmobile... The camper needs a new electrical converter. The maintenance never ends. I'm at the point where I'm out of time, I don't want to sell any of them. I'm already renting a storage unit and using space in my folks cabin outbuilding. So no new toys for me right now.

This time last year I had six motorcycles in the garage, and realized that time constraints, annual registration taxes on each, state inspections, and required insurance costs something had to change. Have three, now, and while wanting to add the 1100, I'm just not sure the added costs will be worth it.

Where did our economic good times go?

I'm with Dave on this one.

Except for a brief time after I got my Scrambler in 2009 and before I sold my 82 Spectre, I've never owned two working motorcycles at the same time.

Most of the people in my riding club have at least two bikes and there's one couple that has (at last count) around 9.

I'll be the first one to admit that when it comes to motorized things, I'm a dilletante. Or a jack of all trades and master of none. 1 Motorcycle, a nice 4wd SUV for me (4runner), a teardrop trailer, a utility trailer and a Jeep (belongs to the wife but I usually drive it.) Then there's the wife's car and my DD car (Mazda Protege.)

Too many toys to consider adding another one. I already call our garage "The Motor Pool."

Every time I come across as sweet deal on CL and say "I could get that!" I bring myself back to reality: No matter how many bikes I have in the garage, there are still only 24 hours in a day, 2 weekend days in a week and 52 weeks in a year.

Back in 2005 I was single, unemployed and living off my savings. I put 15,000 miles on my 2001 Thunderbird that year. But, I had no other "toys" just a DD Subaru.

Now I have a wife, a job, and a house - three things that eat up spare time like a starving man at a buffet table.

Bottom line for me is, I have one bike now and I don't ride it as much as I'd like to. Adding more bikes would not increase my riding time by one bit.

I sometimes think about becoming one of those people who is all about motorcycling and nothing else, but I don't think I could do that. I like my other pursuits too much.

My only gripe? The exhaust. Like others on this thread, I prefer the 4-4 exhaust on this bike.

Not that the stock exhaust is bad, mind you. It's very pretty. It's just that it belongs on a cb400 type tribute bike than a (mostly) cb750 inspired bike.

Huh? The 400's had a single pipe, the 750's were the one's with 4/4, 4/2....

Yes indeed. I may get nagged about other things, but not that. I suspect the wife having a horse has something to do with that. Talk about a time and money-intensive hobby... :-)
