Going to Dealer Tomorrow To Buy 2012 KLR (need negotiating tactics)

Hey guys. Got a 2012 KLR lined up to purchase tomorrow. It is brand new. He said the retail is $6299.00 based on the MSRP. I asked if Kawasaki was offering any incentives for this month and he said there were none. However, you look on ebay and dealers are trying to sell the same year that are also new and they can't even get offers for 5800. I have the cash to pay for everything up front. KBB shows that if they are in excellent condition it's $5235.00. So I'm thinking I can maybe get it for $5500. The reason I'm posting this is that this is only the second time I've ever purchased any type of vehicle from a dealer. The only other time was for my Honda back in 2003. Was just curious for those out there what type of avenue to take with this. Feel free to joke and make smart comments. I welcome it. And if there is a thread on this I didn't see on my search please point me out to it. Thanks!

Since you got the cash, walk in and tell the Sales Guy what you are paying. He'll check with so and so, and come back with an answer. Tell him you ain't dickin around all day with a "back and forth". They know that KLR's are available for sale regularly, it is a great product but used market is flooded and the "2012 Model" doesn't exactly have a "revolutionary" redesign

If you think your price is fair, then it is! They try to talk ya up, and if your comfy let them. Otherwise hit the internet, and pay less for the same bike. Not worried about there "warranty" or any incentives, KLR's will never let you down, and you'll see ads for low km (10,000 or under) all the time.

Either way, good luck and happy trails!

And yup, I got smart jokes AND stupid comments...but I bite my tongue and wish you well!

I shop for the best deal before I ever walk in the dealership. Not looking to waste anyone's time haggling over a few hundred bucks, much less mine. Let them know you're serious and want to take delivery today for the price you have in mind, but it must be a fair offer. They get a bunch of tire kickers and some play it close to the vest. If they won't deal then walk and look elsewhere. It's not like this is a brand new model with limited availability. Have fun and good luck!

sept. should be dealing month for most dealers.
new models will get announced and winter is coming.
contact them all via fax with a letter stating what deal you want and see who responds.
some dealers list 2013 so if you wait a some 2012 fast becomes old model.

from a quick search,,mrsp is $6299 for the 2012,,
but for 2 hundred more you could buy a 2013 model @ $6499, and that is from the Kawi site. Lots of dealers out there, some may have a better deal on last year's bikes.

seems the dealers in OH are always having the best prices.
people from the mtns. travel east all the time to shop in ohio and i'm sure people from the east go west to ohio. you need to add fuel costs to get there for the big picture.

I like to break out the halloween gear and go in looking like I got leprosy or something and smelling really bad, tell them I only have $xx dollars and I need that bike while I vomit on the floor. They usually work pretty quick to get you on your way.

Not sure. That is advertised price on Cycletrader. Honda East Toledo (They sell all four asian makes) is probably even less as they say "call for price" and I've dealt with them several times. They only add on a minmal doc fee.
