A lovely 2nd day of the cannonball. first 100 miles was rain.
Bike stopped running, and when I couldnt fix it with my hammer, I knew it was an electrical problem
Inside of the magneto had water
So I dried it out along the road, in the rain.(not an easy feat)
I got it going, and later I stopped for gas, & it wouldnt start. I got it goin about an hour later, & didnt shut it off. gassed it up running, filled the oil running, etc. no nfood today, as I was running late. Finally I thought I had it whopped, but saw a guy with a brok harley, so stopped to help, & spent some time there. bike wouldnt start again. Finally got it going, & made it to cleveland, where the highway was shut down because of a wreck. I fought the traffic for an hour before the bike said Fuck it! and died.
So I had to catch a ride to sandusky.

Breakdown

I found Doug at the Home Depot @ 200th street. His Indian and two others in the Performance Cycles truck. Once they had everything tied down I led them through the cornfusion to 90W and to the west side of town before I waved them on. Not how I had hoped to ride along with Doug. Oh well. Nice to see you again Doug, good luck with the rest of the ride!

It looks like they are taking the scenic route.

Ah, they where probably late to the last checkpoint anyway, so sweep or ride, same difference anyhow. Better to get to the dinner ASAP than fix it on the road.

Perhaps it needs a bigger hammer.

Geeeezzzz,
Rain happens, beyond human power to control , but, to route a bunch of elderly bikes through city traffic on an Interstate road ?
Willing to bet the planners ears got scortched more than once today.

So what does this do to Doug's Cannonball run? Is he out? Can he go ahead and do the run? For fun?? Crummy deal.
Does anyone know how #24, Kelly Modlin, is doing? He's on a 29 Harley with a sidehack. He's from my hometown and I've not heard anything about him or how he's doing since the start.

It's an endurance challenge and not a race, so DNFing one section doesn't mean you're out of the game. My guess is they have a max time they award if you DNF or don't finish in the allocated time on a given day. It's all for fun and bragging rights so it's not like everyone's out there trying to set a new record or anything, and I guarantee you probably every bike in it will have a break-down or problem at some point along the way.

Total amount of points equals milage in the whole rally route. He's missing a few points today by missing some miles. Like some others will. And others will do in other stages. You can also loose points for arriving late to the final checkpoint, Speeding ticket, Missing a checkpoint, Change of rider. Drinking alcohol during the rally. Cheating and a lot of other reasons. But it takes a lot to be excluded.
From what I understand: You get a starting time, and the leg is calculated by actual tests to take 5 hours not including a couple of 15min refueling and 45min lunch. Getting late to the finish, say the mean speed for the leg is tested to be 1 mile per minute,(=300miles) and you're 10 minutes late to the finish. The deduction then is 10 points. There's a 45 min leeway to the timed finish as well so in reality you are 55 minute late in this example.
An accident might throw this calculation aside and he might get an hour added to the finish time. Still he got trailered a certain distance and might get deduction for actual miles trailered.

Thanks! My heart goes out to those trouble struck fellows, I sure hope they get sorted.
Their rank is based on class, bike year mod. and finally rider age.
But I wonder what happend with the 3 riders that made all miles but got NS? What's the ****

If you look at the key at the bottom, it says "NS = Not Scored". I'm taking that to assume they're participating but not "officially" participating. Maybe they're the organizers? Route makers? Judges/Scorers?
