I'm confused (nothing new). Today's posts sound like he is stopped for repairs, but I see his SPOT has moved a good bit since I looked this morning.

I hope he's up and running again already and keeps it going to the finish.

The logical guess would be that he is working on his bike in a trailer being hauled to Sturgis?? We will find out soon enough!

His bike is down until he can replace the rear cylinder. New ones will be waiting for him at Sturgis so there is little he can do until he gets there other than ride with the support team.

Looks like the Run will go right through West Yellowstone, stopping here Sunday night. Not sure it would help Doug out, but I have a pretty complete shop, Bridgeport, lathe, welders, tools and a lift here in West, NC of course.

That has been my concern as well. I have complete confidence in Doug's abilities...and am sure that there are no doubt several inmates that will go above and beyond to help out. If the parts make it in time, them I am sure Doug will be back in the hunt.

Looking forward to seeing him post again... because it means that he has the time to do something besides work on the bike.

cannonball

Sturges is a rest day, hopefully Doug can get the Scout fixed. I was in Sandusky Sat and Sun to see the bikes come in and then leave in the morning. My buddy Jack Wells has a 29 BMW R-11 in the ride and is doing great. In the top ten every day. The riders do not get the next days route until the evening before, hence no one knows what roads are travelled in advance. The chase vehicles travel a different route than the riders. Tomorrow will be the 1/2 way point, just under 2000 miles. By buddies say that the northern roads are rough due to frost heaves and potholes. The coming mountains will be brutal on those small old brakes. Some of the flathead bikes are blowing head gaskets. I used to have trouble with my Indian til I went to copper gaskets. The composition gaskets kept blowing, with asbestos now outlawed, copper is the fix. With the discussion about piston pin clips coming loose, I ran alloy buttons on a KJ Henderson for years with no ill effects.

Wore my 28' Indian Cannonball t-shirt this last weekend at the Sipapu Rally. You know, out of respect for what you're doing and all. It fits .............. but I better not put it in the dryer ............. then it'll be Mrs Road Damage's night shirt. Nobody sleeps naked in my house by God!

Give em' hell amigo. Good luck!

I trimmed your message.
That statement does not make sense. When the 2010 Cannonball Run came through our area in Western NC, the chase vehicles followed the riders. How would the chase vehicle driver know the bike he/she is supporting know if he/she needed assistance? Cell phone coverage is not good in a lot of areas.

Simply the chase vehicles arn't allowed to support during the stage. There's several broom trucks that collect the breakdowns, and the riders have their work cut out to avoid these sweepers!
