That's long time friend and riding buddy Norm Nelson. Quick bio: Norm's in his late 60's and is no stranger to LDR, he rode his '58 Sportster to Alaska in about 1981 with his wife Maggie and again solo a couple years ago when he knew he was going to lose her to cancer. He raced a Norton Manx for years that a friend let him use, winning often. He's constantly riding back and forth between homes in Fla and west Texas on his '77 R100RS he bought new and more recently a Piaggio 250, which is probably faster than than that 1929 BMW. Has a DRZ 250 for offroad work too. Also he owned BMW of Daytona for several years before the current owner. The coolest thing about Norm though is he's a really great guy, so if any of you get a chance to talk to him take it, you won't be sorry.

Haven't seen today's results yet but as of yesterday 23 was in 5th, so far looking good.

Edit: I just noticed something, is that a flashlight duct taped to his headlight? : )

I met several other guys from here today, as I said before, its always nice to meet you guys. sorry if Im not able to hang out much.

The bike is running great. I hope no more issues. the last 2 nites, all Ive done is drained & refilled the oil in the crankcase.

you'd think Id have more time now to update my ride report, but I'm usually helping other guys with their bikes when I have extra time.

As usual, Ive been riding, and am behind on the posting.
So after I got the bike fixed in WV, I headed to NY the next day.
I stopped just outside Gettysburg for the night. You have to be cautious here, as visiting southerners haven’t always been treated warmly. There was a big battle fought here during the war of northern aggression

They have a statue of the great agitator





The next morning, about 100 miles down the road, the bike stopped, no compression. I was a bit worried, but it turned out to only be a bit of carbon stuck on the exhaust valve



This old gas station was still working, the guy actually came out to fill my tank. He liked the bike so much, he gave me a discount J



I met up with Shawn here, & we rode to NY together. He did his best to get me lost in the wilds of new jersey, but I made it anyhow.
I did pass thru Beemerville tho.




The hotel was right next to the orange county clowns building. I didn’t bother to go see them, and I don’t think they came over to see some actual motorcycles. I think that worked out for the best. They don’t want to clug their minds with anything that actually functions, and my gaydar pegged to the red if I got closer than 100 feet from the building

There were a lot of cool bikes here, & many nice people. Everyone was doing last minute work to make them ready













Then the morning of sept 7^th, we were off! Like a herd of turtles!

Thanks to everyone for posting your pictures of Doug and the rest of the gang. I have to admit that this particular RR makes me smile every time I read an update. Lots of great old bikes and lots of interesting situations make this a great read.

Talked to Larry after last week's show to see if could find Doug and get him on this time. Right then Doug walked up and Larry handed him the phone.
