Online Maps with Road Type??
I've been looking around, and while my AAA paper maps all have details as to the kind of road (divided/improved/dirt), I can't find any online mapping that lets me know what kind of road and surface a particular route includes.
It's been surprising that the data that maps have had since the dawn of motoring (not insignificant info) suddenly has vanished from every mapping tool I can find (google/mapquest/garmin/tyre/yahoo etc.) Does anyone have an online source for info on whether roads are improved dirt/crap dirt/paved? Just CONUS is fine for now, but any info would be a big help. Thanks...

USGS Map Viewer
My Garmin shows dirt roads differently and there are lots of dirt roads on the Open Source Maps. But I don't see it showing up online. PLEASE don't tell me that if I update the OS maps on my Garmin that I'll lose that info. PLEASE.

Thanks for those two links, those should come in handy on planning local trips too.
