You doing the whole TAT? I researched it, some sections in CO, I believe, are only passable for short periods of time. Keep us posted.

SAPB, no, unfortunately time/money simply wont allow for the entire journey. A friend and myself will be knocking out sections over the coming months/years.

I'll be documenting each section as we accomplish them. We are fortunate enough to live 1.5 hours from the starting point in TN. I currently have a virtually stock CRF250L and he'll be riding a slightly modified DRZ400. With only my backpacking and dirt bike skills to help me along, we've scheduled Leg #1 for November 16, 2013 - this coming Saturday.

Well, you certainly picked the right ride for it. A few years back, my daughter and I rode our bikes from here, to Albuquerque. That was nice, but what you are doing will be way better, I'm jealous. Ride safe!

Luckily that wont be an issue this go-round. Going forward the trick will be scheduling a truck or grabbing a uhaul to drop us off and pick us up. It really is a bummer to do it that way, but it's the only feasible way we can make it work.

Performance Camshaft

I was at the Honda dealer today talking with one of the tech guys. He recommended this camshaft from Daniel Crowler Racing: Honda CBR 250 Victory Race Cam Set. He said it would be just the ticket for the CRF250L, providing significant power increases across the board in all gears.

Has anyone looked into this? The dealer mentioned also, that on a regular valve service, they could install the cam set for a minimal extra charge. DCR sells the cam set for $359. Not too bad.

Interesting?

Go LRP (and Nancy) !

Absolutely go LRP and Nancy! The above was my favorite pic. Me and my LRP are soooo jealous of your trip!!

Did you have any issues with fuel range? I didn't see any extra cans in your pics but your bike, Lost, does have a large tank--was it a "donor tank"?

cheers

I would think they would post up a dyno graph, have you seen one?

No, I haven't. If I get serious about the idea I would contact the firm and get details about that and it's affect on engine life, etc. Just curious if anyone had tried this and how they fared.

Might need to also run the CBR throttle body with those cams as well to reap the full benefits of the larger/longer lift.

Maybe ask on the CBR forum, it's the same engine.

edit: I posted it
