2 things to check are emmulsion tube where the needle sits into. this wears (replace it) larger and lets more gas in. check the float level.

1st to completely flush the carb. you'll be amazed where dirt comes out from even if it looks clean.

Yeah, the DR650 is a great bike, especially for this type of trip. I definitely need to open up the carb, clean it out and find out what I can. It was still riding fine, but it had a bog that I did not have over the summer riding even up above 12,000.

I just need it to warm up a little in my garage.

I did love Costa Rica. And you are right, the expense is about its only negative. Great, fun country.
