Best pizza in Chicago.

I know how this sort of question goes over. I get this all the time in Memphis regarding BBQ.

I'm passing through Chicago tomorrow around lunch time on my way into Michigan, hopefully a little earlier than that. Around 11 or so ideally.

I'd like to stop for some Chicago pizza.

I don't have a lot of time, and I'm not looking for anything fancy.

So, where to go?

Jamie

You don't pass Thru Chicago into Michigan.
OMG, take US31 into that area.
Its a real clusterfook, avoid at all costs, even NW Indiana is a parking lot.
Do you like spending the afternoon in traffic jams , big semi trucks ,and paying tolls?
they got pizza in Michigan.
Indpls, IN, then 31 to michigan
It has taken me several hours to get thru chicago.
Don't do it.
I got camping space in Indpls and a matching blue 2004 weestrom.
If you need to cut over to the East, take us 24 into Indiana and head at a NE angle into michigan avoiding NW Indiana and CHICAGO.

Good point about the traffic.

My Pie & Peqouds for thick crust-sauce on top style, Giodarnos for stuffed, Art of Pizza for anything else.

there's a ton of other options, but those are all top tier joints right there.

Take 294 around the city, very little traffic at that time of day, about 10.00 in tolls if you don't have an I-Pass device, stop here http://www.kaiserspub.com/, it's a couple of miles off the tollway, you won't be disapointed.

Guess I should have been more specific. Here's the route google has me.

On closer inspection, Chicago proper is a little out of the way.

Doug, I might take you up on that on the way back. I'm planning to hitchhike back through Louisville and Indianapolis.

Soooo not Chicago at all.

Go to Greenbush brewery in Sawyer, MI and get the brisket.

Your route is a nasty piece of work, but I understand how those things go.

You might stop in Joliet, get four fried chickens and a coke.

Four fried chickens and a coke is the best suggestion so far...

I don't think that place is open any more.

Why not do a big rural swing through NW Indiana and catch I-57 down by Kankakee somewhere? You've plotted a nasty route.

Best pizza in Chicago.

Don't have much time. Gotta deliver the bike by about 2pm tomorrow. I'm camped out near Champaign tonight. I've got more freedom on the way home, but as I pointed out, won't have a vehicle.

For some reason, I really thought Chicago was farther south. I glanced at my route before I left and it looked to me like I was going right through there.

I didn't plot the route. I have google my destination and it have me three options based on time and distance. I chose the one that was both the shortest and supposed to be the quickest.

You shouldn't have too much issue on the route, as long as nothing goes haywire on the Borman. (fingers crossed)

But you are too far south for even my south side recommendations. (I love Palermo's) People in the city think of anything south of I-80 as "Southern Illinois" Your best bet may be Beggar's just south of 80 on RT45 in Mokena. They are a semi local chain, and usually serve up a decent pie.
