Best places to buy GPS?

This is not a price thread, we have that already. What I am asking here is about the quality of the buying experience. Any places that have better or worse shipping or return policies that make you either recommend for or against them?

REI, West Marine and Amazon have very good customer service in my experience. Excellent return policies and fast shipping.

Where NOT to Buy?

I have had almost universally GOOD results, there was one exception.

In 2008 I bought a Garmin 545s from "Shipdog", it was an 'impulse purchase' as I was just about to take my newly repowered boat down to the Keys to play. It was available and in stock when I placed the order, then became 'available but delayed for a week' right afterward. That meant that it would not arrive in time for a trip I was leaving on but I figured with no time to get one (for anywhere near the price) before leaving, I might as well still get it for future use. While I was gone, my wife received notice from Fedex that they were unable to deliver the package as she was away at work each day, she tried to go in the evening to pick it up but was informed that only I could sign for it and they were shipping it back to the sender. When I got home I contacted Shipdog, they maintained that there was nothing about the past shipping that required any signature and that they would ship it again (by UPS), I can't recall what the problem was but I ended up having to drive to the UPS distribution center, only to find out that they were closed (mid day, middle of the week), fortunately someone was there and able to find my package. That device ran for 364 days and died, was replaced under warranty, the replacement lasted went 1 1/2 years before also dying. I am still trying to get that resolved!

Some things are "just not meant to be", I believe that this is one of them. Had I cut my losses and cancelled the order when it was first 'delayed', I would have been much happier in the long run. After a while you have so much invested 'in the proccess' that it is hard to quit.

Just my experience, YMMV.
