Ride them on the Road of Bones, beat them senseless, see what breaks and what needs attention. A small price to pay to get expert R & D and cost effective mods. Colebatch's rides across Russia, Mongolia and the Stans are world class torture events ... and NO ONE has done the tracks he has done there ... and ALL on his modified BMW X Challenge.

Then it would be up to BMW to find a way in incorporate Colebatch's ideas into the bike and still have it be affordable ... and of course make a profit.

How much extra would you pay for a "Colebatch" modified Sertao?

I've been looking hard at both the Sertao and Terra. Ive only ridden the Sertao, but i have sat on the Terra. The Beamer ergos felt a touch better for me (6'3", can also get a taller seat) and also for my wife on the back. At this point I still lean towards the Beamer: better resale, better aftermarket support, better passenger ergos, better wind protection, longer warranty, and a longer track record (if you count the Dakar). Since my KLR was offroad enough for me, either bike will be an improvement. Wile the ABS aren't top notch, it's still a good feature for most riders. The Husky looks like a good deal, and is probably the better bike for local solo riding, but but for my use the points I mentioned earlier mean something. If you are in the Northeast, Max BMW looks to have some solid deals on their 2012 Sertaos ride now....some are offered at $8500, and I don't think the Huskies are at the point where there is much bargaining room yet.

I put a deposit down on the Terra last week. Very happy to see all the great reviews on the TR650 so far. Sure there will be some growing pains , but overall I think it is going to be a great bike. I looked at the Sertao last month and really like it. The F800 and F700 also were very nice machines. Price wise in Canada, I think the difference between the TR650 and Sertao would be close to $2500 OTD.I got the Terra for less then Canadian MRSP(7999) and no extra fee's. The Sertao was around 9600 plus options that were installed and I doubt that you could get one out the door without a freight charge and assembly charge. I will say the BMW holds its value VERY well. I think the demand for the new TR bikes is strong and if the reliability and aftermarket support is there it should do ok in this department also. This is my first bike in over 20 years so as long as it runs OK I will be thrilled!! If you see a old guy on a Husky around Moose Jaw SK. that would be me.

Some slight price drops from a new dealer. Just checking CL for a used Terra and saw this. They are for the 2013 so not left overs. Don't think there are any 2012's left. Anyone want to sell me their Terra/Strada???

It's possible. One really needs to pay attention to their deal sheet, before signing. Be sure to have everything broken down, so as to see where every charge is coming from.

A lot of dealers will tell you there are no hidden fees, I guess they don't consider delivery and setup hidden. Some places just add it on to every bike. I guess a lot do as most people are surprised when you tell them you don't. I think these bikes are well worth the $6999 OTD, there really isn't much markup on them at retail.

Paid $6950 otd for mine . Donnells in Independence MO.
No extra bs fees and charges. Actually $50 less than what I was quoted the first time I asked .Good dealer. I recommend.

Donnell's is a good dealer....got my TE449 there....before the dealer in OK opened...

Its ALL about the tack-on fee's and trade in negotiating. The price they list doesn't mean jack if you don't work yourself a good deal

Mostly to keep costs down would be my guess. Strength for adventure touring, those bikes can get loaded down pretty good, could be another.

The X bikes had a few cases of broken swing arms. Various other bits of cast alloy made the bikes a bit vulnerable. steel = peace of mind
