Thanks for the updates boys; there's nothing better to start of the day than a cup of joe and a good ride report!

Border Crossing

Did you happen to ask the Border Patrol officer if there would have been anyway they would have let you in the country without your passport. Years ago all you needed was a drivers license. I seem to remember a canadian border crossing in Denis's "Key West to Deadhorse" RR where there was no border patrol. You could have taken the long way around.

Oh which one!? I wound up on 9 ferries or more the whole trip.

The St. John to Digby ferry was $94 round trip
The ferry to Newfoundland was about $190 round trip.

Most of the other ferries were much less expensive.

My friend was visiting Virgina this week from Halifax and he said that you CAN get into Canada without a passport but you CANNOT get into the US without. Don't know if this is fact or fiction.

I recall being told this at the Vermont border several years ago. The Americans were much less congenial than the Canadians I recall as well.

I crossed over to Canada from North Dakota in '09 more or less by mistake. Coming back was in fact a little tricky.

I'd definitely not recommend that anyone "leave home without it"

Great recovery in getting the trip back on track HBN

Great read so far. Yep, even when it was still OK to go into Canada with a drivers license and original birth certificate, I got some serious stink-eye on the way back into the US. Maybe it was because we were bringing Grimmboys 640 back into the US after the Heroes Legend - Paris/Dakar and we seemed suspicious with all that paperwork (much cheaper transport from Canada). We were at the border for a while...
HBN - I sold my blue/white GS like yours to a guy from NS. They must like going that way.
