Any latest word on what happened in the Kevin Ash Crash? Can't find much definitive info with Google.

Sounds like he was a great guy and a great family man. Condolences to his family.

From the sketchy reports I've read it seems that two motorbikes were involved in an accident on a long straight gravel road.

And that Kevin sustained a upper body injuries which at first didn't seem that serious (broken arm or collarbone or similar) but that there must have been some kind of more serious internal injury as well that wasn't that easy to spot at first.

Don't take that as fact - only what I've read.

He was a great journo for sure - will miss his articles!

I'd never heard of Kevin Ash until I saw an article about him in the recent Cycle World magazine. I think I have read some of his articles in the past. I'm going back now and reading several of his articles from his website. www.ashonbikes.com Sounds like we lost one of the best.

He died on the new GS1200 press launch test in South Africa, 22/01/13. The test was called to a halt 3.15pm, following an accident that involved at least one other rider (fellow Brit, Alun Davies) being injured. I do not have any information on whether they collided, or how it happened.

Kevin Charles Ash was born in Ilford, Essex on 10 December 1959 and is survived by his wife (Caroline Quanjer) and three daughters, Laurien (20), Kirsten (18) and Ingrid (10).

Editor Hoyer of Cycle World wrote his Up Front column this month about being prepared, and related his story about being there when Ash had his fatal accident.

I don't know about Mr. Ash, but I had a buddy go down in a relatively minor motorcycle accident where a pickup pulled out in front of him. A few cuts and bruises. Considered sending the ambulance away and riding home with a friend who arrived at the scene.

Good thing he took that ambulance ride, though, because he was in critical shape by the time he got to the hospital.

Ruptured Spleen, plus complications. He was in the hospital for a couple weeks!

He might've died, had he gone home and put off medical attention.
