NY tag.
Deer. Shocker. They are breeding out of control these past several years, regardless of what the DEC will tell you. I've re-thought many evening rides due to these vermin.

That really sucks. I'm really amazed I haven't had any close encounters here in VA. Its not that I don't see deer. I see them all the time at all times of the day and night. Strangely, they seem to run from my bike. Its the damnedest thing. They may be feeding with heads down but when my 2008 GSA approaches, they look up and jump away. I can't even count the number of times this has happened. It is starting to make me think something about the headlights or exhaust note or maybe even my hi-viz jacket is making them recognize me as a predator.
I'm quite happy about this but I'm not getting comfortable either. I still go hard on to the brakes when I see one near the road and I constantly scan for deer but I just have not had any jump out in front of me. |

I have passed so many deer without problems but this one really wanted to say hi in person.
When I saw it. I slowed from 50 to 30 but the road was slick and I was hoping for the best. I didn't swerve just hit it straight on which I am glad about. I felt swerving would have left a dead chasbo and a live deer instead of vice versa but who knows. Those deer are completely insane in the way they move around. I am rethinking not riding again-hey I rode to work this morning but damn it hurts and I've totalled 2 bikes and 6 months. Chasbo |

Entering the rut season for deer. Apparently a very dangerous time to be on the road. I don't hunt, so don't pretend to know much, but the hormonal changes make for crazy white tail behaviour in and about October.

Take a little break
Take a little break and after your knee and pride have healed evaluate if:
1. You should ride slower and with riding gear all the time. 2. Quit riding. I have been down twice in the last 9 weeks. That made me reevaluate the type of riding I was doing and have decided I want to enjoy riding for as long as my body allows me to. This means I will have to adjust my riding style accordingly. Just something for you to think. Chapin
