Thumb "Around the Alps 2013"- big report with photos and videos

Hi Guys!

I'm Tom from Cracow, Poland

I'm very happy that I can share with You my own memories, photos and movies from my last year trip
"Around the Alps 2013".
I know it's hard too write and show something new or surprising about Alps, but I tried.

So, present some the best photos, movies from my YouTube channel (videos from motorcycle routes) recorded with GoPro Hero2 camera and short description with feelings from the journey. Each day of the expedition will be placed in the new post. Every following day (starting from today) = new episode

It was a trailer of my trip:

Here is a visual map:

And some basic information:

Time: 1-11 August 2013
Distance: 3800km
Countries: Poland, Czech, Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland
Target: 19 Alpine Passes
Motorcycles: me and Asia on XJ600N and Adrian on Bandit 600.

Are You interested, do You like?

Ok, check the first compilation from the journey!

Wait for more!

Greetings from Poland,
Tom

Hi Tom, welcome along....

Glad you missed out Bielsko-Biala on the route.... seemed to me like the armpit of Poland when I passed through on the way back from Cracow

Look forward to the ride reports

Hi Tom,
I'm looking forward to reading more. The Alps are majestic. And so many other riders on the routes, looks like a great riding area!

"Around the Alps 2013"

Day 1 - The Polish Roads

Link to map

It is 8 a.m. and we are starting from the city of Cracow, in the south of Poland. We, namely me, my girlfriend Asia and my friend Adrian on his Suzuki Bandit 600 98'. The weather is perfect for riding. Our plan for today is to get to Austria, near the city of Vienna. This part of the journey involves mostly riding the boring highways.

Luggage for XJ600n (my and Asia)

Firstly, we arrive at the Polish/Czech border. The technical condition of the Czech highway (number "1") is very poor in many parts, in my opinion, the quality of the surface is worse than the quality of the Polish highways (it is worth mentioning that in Poland we do tend to criticize the quality of our Polish roads at all times).

Coffee break near Polish/Czech border (Polish side, me and Asia)

Lunch break on Czech side- Adrian and Asia

At the Austrian border we have to buy the vignettes. Soon afer that we arrive at Sankt Polten. It takes a little bit of searching for a hotel and we finally land in "Melk".

Melk streets

Melk its beautiful small town, best known as the site of a massive baroque Benedictine monastery named Melk Abbey.

The Melk Abbey

Cruise ships dock at the arm of the Danube river

The first 600km for us!

-------------------
In the next episode, tomorrow:
-the first winding roads and Alpine passes (video),
-crossing the Italian border,
-amazing old Ducati cafe racer.

Cheers!
Tom

Bryn, I think he had enough of boring Polish highway.
Still roadworks, the places with stupid speed limits and traffic jam at the exit of highway.
Because another roadworks

But then, it was a better and better!

Day 2 - The Gates of the Alps

Link to map

We wake up at 7 a.m. The sun is shining beautifully. The plan is already set for today, so we hit the highway.

More Alpine-landscapes (behind Salzburg)

Goodbye highways!

After a short while we arrive near Innsbruck and get off the highways to start riding the winding local roads in south Germany. Finally!

Lunch break at McD in Germany

Oh, come on!

We are arriving at the Sudelfeld Pass, our first true attraction of the journey.

This Alpine Pass is a part of the Deutsche Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Road). It is short in its distance and the elevation isn't high, but riding the pass gives us the opportunity to test our fully loaded motorcycles in mountainous surrounding. Test is passed with a positive mark! My loaded XJ600n is riding very smoothly and easily! And Adrian's Bandit too!

A little break

Soon we are crossing the Italian border, we choose the Brenner Pass and we arrive at Gossensass, near Vipiteno.

Like in Italian restaurant

The mountains waiting for us

Very nice quiet town

Me and Asia

Oh yes! I love the cafe racers!

Here's to You!

500km for us!

------------------
In the next episode, ...tonight!
-at long least, highalpine passes: Stelvio and Jaufen Pass,
-Alpine "rush hours".

Welcome!
Tom
