Didn't realise it was t16. So it was in the fastest corner after the longest straight.. meaning if you try to save it - which should be everyone's instinct since i) you want to rejoin the race if you can, and ii) well, crashing can really hurt.. - you can travel a fair bit of distance. And they put a lawn followed by a hard wall there, after the gravel trap and bit of track for cars?
Yeah, I'd also call that an oversight by those who are responsible for track safety...

That's a shocker!! Bloody hell... Easy to see how he was a bit lost with how to wash off speed with the varying surfaces. But really, this spot is at the end of one of the fastest straights in racing, and well, yeah. Someone should lose their job!
On the other side of the coin, the rider's themselves, should have mayhaps had a bit closer look at their playground. I'd say they will be in the future! Bit of a LUCKY wakeup for everyone involved.

Interesting observation: I was browsing MotoGP.com trying to find the video of Nicky's crash. Besides actual race feed with one crash replay it's absolutely nowhere to be found. Like it didn't happen. And usually there is short clip of every crash of any given race, practice or quali. I'm starting to believe in Dorna conspiracy,

Dorna´s attitude towards rider safety would really need some thorough makeover. They SAY that they take it seriously, but cases like this reveal that it´s really just that. Empty words. |
