Fall Camping in CA-What are your Favorite Locations?

Well, the title says it all....now I can finally camp in the fall and spring, so where are the good spots? I'll take your suggestions!

Cheers,
Steve

Well let's see now. Pretty big question. It's getting pretty cold at night from now till spring in the Trinity National Forest, Mt. Lassen, Sierra higher elevations. If you don't mind 20s at night those are beautiful areas in the early fall.

Coastal Central California is beautiful in the fall and spring. Not much fog, the kids are back in school, great riding north of Cambria towards Big Sur and north of the Bay area through the Russian River and Mendocino area. Lots of places to camp and back roads to explore. Coastal Northern California is nice as well through the Redwoods all through late fall and early spring in between storms.

Late fall/early spring is also a great time to visit Death Valley, Mohave desert, Joshua tree and Anza Borrego further south. The road from Bakersfield up over the low Sierra following the Kern river is a nice way to get to Death Valley from the central valley when the central Sierra passes are snowy.

California has a lot to offer. Some great riding and plenty of back country to explore.

Have fun!

Kindest regards,
John Downs

John, thanks for your detailed post...I've got a window of time before I leave for southeast Asia at Thanksgiving time...Think I'll head up the coast and see what happens!

Best,
Steve
