US Speedway Nationals
Hamills win at Costa Mesa.
Billy goes from zero to hero. Motor trouble left Billy with a zero in his 1st heat, he ended up winning the Main for his 3rd National Championship. Kurtis Hamill won the 250 cc Jr. main event. Gonna be quite a party at the Hamill house. |

![]() I think that's his fifth National Championship, and he's got a World Championship (and a World Team Championship) as well. He's been a fast guy for a long time...

I guess the track announcer can only speak about the current sanctioning body (SRA).
Billy has 4 AMA sanctioned National titles. Speedway is such a redheaded stepchild in the US. |

He got lucky with that win. Janniro was leading but his bike let go with one lap to go. The event was fun to watch

Dudes-
There is only one US National Speedway Championship and it has been held at CMSpeedway ever since 1969. Some years AMA sanctioned, many SRA sanctioned and now self-sanctioned. The AMA is not really relevant to and should not be in Pro Racing, period! Thanks to Monster and congratulations to Billy Hamill for the best nite of racing in years! |

Thanks Brad.
I'm pretty sure Clanton said 2 times prior. How many times has Billy won? |

Billy Hamill is now the 3-time US National Champ. Also, 1996 World Champ and the coolest dude ever!

was a damn great night of racing.
janirro was cashing his paycheck when he made a viscious cut to the inside (wheels over the inside pole, for the 3rd time on the night, not called by the ref.) and his chain broke i really like both billy's, have been watching speedway forever, and even gave it a go myself for a couple years, but janirro rides balls to the wall and he shouldnt have in that race. he shoulda put it on cruise, because the track had shaken down into a one groove go and it woulda taken a hell of a pass by hamill to go around him. im glad the bullet won, hes a true champ, not that janirro isnt, but hamill has mega class. now brad........ you gotta get hamill, hancock, janirro and sam ermolenko on the track at the same time. id pay a 20 just to watch that last man out race. also, hedden put mad dog on his ass in mad dog's second heat, it was blatant, and his fault, and the ref didn't call it. and the two riders from the 20 yard line cuz of double penalaties? wtf is that, half the field down = red flag and a complete restart, at least thats how it always has been, but not with the "world according to brian" |

Mr. Village-
I share your enthusiasm for the sport. No one likes referees. I am glad I dont have that job! Putting 1 wheel (front) on the infield is legal. We run that PVC pipe to discourage that and it works good. Janniro is so strong he flexed the frame causing the chain to de-rail. You are right, he didnt need to do it that time but, he heard "footsteps". I am glad Brian does not call every contact, the racers should settle the outcome. He is only supposed to make calls when a race is stopped or, something ugly happens. Ermo and Greg are FULL time Euro's so I dont see them showing at CM soon but, it would be cool!! Thanks for supporting Speedway. We are gonna go big next year! -Brad- |

Speedwaybikes.com says 1999, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2012 National Champion :
http://www.speedwaybikes.com/rw/ubilly_h.htm Another source (Tee Shirt from this years Nationals), says Brad Oxley was champ in 1999 and Chris Manchester in 2001. Where did Billy win the National Championships in 99 and 01? See what I mean about Redheaded Stepchild? |

What track was the AMA Nationals at?
I was away from Speedway for a few years. There's only 1 National champ, unless some other track says their winner is Champion. Speedway is so ef'ed up. r77toy screwed with this post 09-29-2012 at 01:04 PM |

I wish Costa Mesa was proper Speedway track, not mini circus. Do not get my wrong, it's fun to watch, but I really want to see speedway bikes stretch their legs.

there is an ama champion, and a costa mesa champion sometimes they run a 3 round series, typically 2 in auburn and one at costa mesa. perris flat track has a 1/4 mile track and run some events thru the year, its a sweet track, deep and wide and perfect for a speedway event, though the venue lacks for large crowds |
