Are high capacity MP3 players dead and gone?

I'm looking for a high capacity MP3 player, and don't see ANY options left out there. Apple pretty much killed the market. I seem to have lost my 80gb Zune in recent days. So my choices are buy an iPod or do without? I don't want to have to load and unload music, I want my entire collection available in one location. I need a minimum of 65gb of space.

Is the iPod really my only option now?

Most cell phones with external storage can hold that much music.

It sounds like he doesn't want to tote a cell phone just for music.

sansa makes one that holds a micro sd card, so you can get whatever size you can afford, however, the earphone 1/8" socket sucks ass, and usually you lose one channel within a day or two.....

So, yeah your screwed.

I just checked and their latest players only go up to 32 GB, new phones take up to 128 GB cards though this doesn't help the OP now but in year max, possibly sooner there will be 100-200 dollar phones with this.

How about a cheap, obsolete cell phone? Jail break it and just use it for music.

Why don't you just make one out of a Raspberry Pi and an Altoids tin?

I just liked the smaller size of my Zune 80gb, especially while working out, riding the bike, etc. I'm hoping it shows up, and was only "misplaced" somehow. I've been using my phone this week...I only have a 16gb card in it now, and already have a dozen or so albums on it. But would love to take 500+ albums all the time. Might just splurge for a 64gb micro SD card.

IPod is about it. It's a lot better than the old days. 160gb for $250.

If you are comfortable with it, you can buy an old click wheel from eBay and replace theinternals pretty inexpensively. You'll want to buy parts from 2 different vendors as each has different parts discounted. If you want to price that out, just pm me and ill send links your way when I get home.

I'm still using my 40GB 4G grayscale iPod

Still trucking after 8 years; just needed a new battery last fall.

I had to look that one up. Seems like an expensive answer. Read a few articles where someone bought a Pi and ended up spending several hundred to get it to where they needed or wanted it to be.

They have a ~150 dollar model but the UI looks like it could be a bit of a pain. The click wheel works so well...I wonder why Sandisk went away from it with their Sansa unless it was due to Apple suing them.

Though I love my hi-cap iPod Classic, if I had to replace it, I'd go with a....used hi-cap iPod Classic. They just work so well, and not difficult to find used. Even my old one still works fine. I can't remember if it's a 60 or 80GB model.

95% of the time, I use my phone now. Between the bluetooth to the Scala and my car radio, and the fact that I don't really want to carry around multiple items, it's rare for me to actually take another gadget along. The iPod mostly lives in a dock in the garage when I'm working out there. Still though, having something with buttons you can actually feel kicks all kinds of ass over some touchscreen that you have to look at. I don't really care what the album art looks like.
