instructional books on sidecars

Can anyone recommend books on sidecars other than "Driving a Sidecar Outfit", published by the USCA Sidecar Safety Program?

Thanks.

Sure. Some of the most time honored ones were the ones written by Hal Kendall, good friend and co founder of the United Sidecar Association years ago. Hal has donated these to the USCA (sidecar.com)as a free download for sidecarists everywhere.
Hal said:
“The reason for giving the manuals to the USCA, and making them available at cost via CD-ROM from my home is that safety should NOT be something that needs to be BOUGHT if you can't afford it. If you believe in it, it must be freely shared.”

You will find Hal's writing there as well as soem other interesting material that was translated from a German text through the efforts of Hal and others.

Also please note that the USCA as in 'USCA-SSP' does not stand for the United SideCar Association.

Yes it is! It was a hell of thing for him to put those out for the community gratis. It is a shame that his books are not well known. Many long time sidecarists I've spoken with have never heard of him Hal or read his publications.

Ural (the old CMSI importer) used to include the "Driving The Ural Sidecar Motorcycle" book for free with each rig sold. Now it has to be purchased separately from Ural ($30). Bad move me thinks. Come to think of it, that might be the same pub. as "Driving a Sidecar Outfit"...just a different title since IMWA took over imports.

Maybe a sticky link to Mr. Kendall's pubs. could be added at the top of this forum, would not be a bad idea to have links to safety type stuff with so many newbies entering the ranks.

The URAL book ,"Driving The Ural Sidecar Motorcycle",was written by David Hough. It was a free download on the old Ural site for a long time. Hough retained the rights to that book and turned it into what is today known as 'The Yellow Book' ("Driving a Sidecar Outfit"). Long story actually.

Anyone who has been assocoated with the USCA (sidecar.com)or The ISOK at SCT ( http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/SCT/ )shoudl be familar with HAL and his works done within the sidecar world. Hal also has had many many writings in Hack'd Magazine(Hack'd.com) over the years. Great guy and truly one of the icons in the sidecar world who has unselfishly donated much time and effort to try and better our sport.

I got the yellow book "free" when I bought my new 2006 GearUP in January of 2007. Of course, it wasn't free as I paid full MSRP for the outfit.
