Sandia Ranger District - 2012 Trail Work Dates

The Sandia Ranger District will be constructing a new 3ish mile trail on the west side of Hwy 337 this season. The new trail will be open to motorcycles and we're hoping to get folks from the trail communtiy out to help us build. The new trail which will link Tunnel Canyon to the upper portion of the West Ridge Trail will be semi to very technical with lots of ledges and some cool cliffside riding and great views.

Please come out and support trails on the Sandia Ranger District!

Volunteers will meet at the Tunnel Canyon Trailhead at 9:30 and work until 2pm (if you need to leave early no problem). Please come prepared for trail work dressed in pants and sturdy close-toe shoes as well as have water and snacks/lunch. Protective gear such as gloves will be provided as well as all tools (you can bring your own).

Dates are as follows:

April 28 & 29
May 19 & 20
June 2 National Trails Day
June 16 & 17
July 14 & 15
Aug 18 & 19
Sept 22 (national public lands day)
Oct 13 & 14

If you have questions, please contact trails manager, Kerry Wood at kwood@fs.fed.us

Amazing

Kerry,

I feel so lucky to live in a place that is actually creating new moto-friendly trails. I know it feels like a lot was lost in the TMP, but I still appeciate seeing that we have an opportunity to slowly build upon a great network of trails to make them even better. I will definitely pitch on whatever dates I am able. Thanks for your efforts in this regard.

-Ryan

I'm in for at least some of it. Considering I ride the trails (not nearly as much as I'd like to) and work for the Forest Service (Not nearly as much as I should ), I feel the need to contribute to this cause

Unfortunately I can't make the work day, but probably going to go ride up there on Sunday. I am going to try and make the next one for sure. We need some ADVers to step up and help out si we can show a good input from the motorized community!

Trail building

Went out there today for 3 or so hours. About 8 folks there--all mountain bikers helping to build as far as I can tell. The Ranger doing the project is a great guy and this is going to be a good single track trail in an area where we have not been allowed to ride before. I would encourage those interested to get out and help build and then help ride the trail on the first day it is open. I'm still limited by my arm but hopefully I can help as the project moves forward--should take a couple of months. Take a look at the dates and times above and come on out if you can.
