rebuild of Ohlins rear shock
I bought an Ohlins rear for my R100GS about 2 years and 10K miles ago. I admit that I put some heavy off-road use on it, but I did not expect it to start leaking so soon.
Ohlins USA does not seem to want to help at all, even though the shock is young. I called Petterson in SoCal and they seem pretty good. Anyone have experience with rebuilding an Ohlins? Anything I should expect/ask for when the rebuild is done? Thanks.

I just attended a repair and tire changing clinic with Helge Pedersen of "10 Years on Two Wheels" fame and he raved about Pettersson and the work he does. Good enough for me, I'll use them when I need mine rebuilt.

Just installed my Ohlins rebuilt by Stig P. @ PPS. It is a thing of beauty.
However, it took 2 months for me to get it back due to parts problems, etc. Grand-daddy would always tell me that I can usually have things 2 of 3 of ways, but probably not all three: Good. Fairly Priced. Fast. I landed on good and fairly priced. Repairs were $400, and it is dialed in for my weight and load.

how much use before repair needed?
$400 was much more than I had in mind. I'm probably going to need to sell the bike to make room for an Adventure! Should I be upset with Ohlins for the short use I got out of my shock before it started to dribble fluid?

Aftershocks up here in the Bay Area did mine and turned it around in a couple weeks.
San Jose BMW is an Ohlins service center now too.

When I bought my Ohlins, the tech said that if I planned on any off-raod use I would be stupid not to buy a neoprene shock cover to keep the dirt off, as dirt will kill and Ohlins (or any shock) quickly. Cheap insurance for only $25 for the cover!
He said very few ohlns buyers run a cover because the "bling" factor is significantly reduced when the shock is covered.....

I purchased a rear ohlins off ebay and had it rebuilt at Aftershocks in Mountain View (northern cal) It was only $150 for the rebuild since it didn't need new seals. He was great to deal with. I have not mounted it on my 1100 gs yet since I am still looking for a front to match (anyone have a front ohlins for sale).

We now have an Ohlins repair facility in Tucson. Serrano's Motorsports Service. 4352 S 12th Ave 520-294-9691. Speak to Carlos. He just rebuilt my rear Type4 and put it on his Dyno. Great shop with good ties into the Ohlins folks in NC for parts/supplies. Just a happy customer. Mick

Shock rebuild
I use Brian Karlsbroten in Hokah Minnesota. He's a retired shop forman with his own shop at home. His claim to fame is shock rebuilds. His # is 507-894-4694. Good guy, very reasonable prices, dirt bike nut. His kid is on his way to the motorcycle institute in Phoenix. Ernie

I used Carlos today to help me set up an Ohlins on my Super Tenere, based on this recommendation. I'm in full agreement - Carlos was great to work with.
