I think thats why there are so many different "trajectories" on the tracker... and explain the slightly different entrance into the dune pass earlier.
This point is why I think the top guys actually navigate the route as best they can in preparation. I bet you Coma knew roughly where he was and once he saw he was moving down the east side of the erg he knew he would have to cross it west-east and did exactly that.

Yes, Probably the roadbook shows a CAP to the right at a certain kilometer off the main track.
