Organizing a Local Race on a Public Road...
This maybe off the wall, but I have this fantasy about having a local race on a backroad through our wine country area... Has anyone ever started something like this?
I was thinking it could be sponsered by some of the wineries along the 12 mile route. Maybe raise money for a local charity with the entry fees.
I am sure there is a lot of footwork involved:
-Permission by County Government
-Public viewing areas
Anyway, it maybe just a dream, but this road would be really suited for a race. Different classes but all street legal and not have to worry about the Police :)
Has anyone done this

I think the last one was Pebble Beach in the 50's before Laguna Seca was built. There was a sportscar race at the Stockton waterfront about 1958 too. There are the urban races we see from the open wheeler and sports car folks. A few years ago they built a track in the old Redskins Stadium and hosted one race. It was a massive failure and everybody lost their shirts.
Sounds like a fun thing, but I doubt many drivers want to go racing on country roads with trees and such whizzing by...

Here is a link to some chatter about a one-way uphill race that was held for a few years in the 2000's on Old Hwy 40 from Truckee up to Donner Summit. It was a very cool event.
