Is there a Quebec story to be told?

Not really - just that its long, boring and tedious going through Quebec. It ALWAYS pours from Riviere du Loup to Quebec City.

And all the drivers are lunatics.

I attended a wedding some years ago in Buffalo, NY. I'd paired up with my friend PW to go see "Hoss" and Heidi get hitched up. We were in a sporting car with a strong turbo. The roads sucked through NY. NY was going through another budget crisis, and decided not to plow. To my chagrin, we turned a house-cat that was crossing the road into soap. I don't know what the cat was doing out there, but he or she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I still feel bad about it.

We decided to come back through Canada. At least they still plow the Trans-Canada, and the house cats have the good sense to stay abed at night. We were cooking along on the high side of 90 mph somewhere east of Toronto but not quite to Ottawa. A clapped-out Lada (A Russian air-cooled Fiat copy) with Quebec plates blew by us as if were standing still. PW's jaw dropped. "They can't do that!"

Quebec drivers are special, and have a unique relationship with God. Everyone else best stand aside.

driving in QC and all of Canada etc... is VERY calm compared to europe ! I remember TRYING to actually move off at a "roundabout" when I was on my old Goldwing, back in the 80s, whilst passing through Paris

p.s. I hate that you are not supposed to move through traffic here... we are encouraged to do this in europe to HELP keep congestion down of course I would never dream of doing this nowadays as I trip through Montreal haha sure...

I remember hitch-hiking with a girl to Quebec city for the Carnaval one year back in the early '70s. We got a ride with a guy in a Dodge Charger, doing 130 mph as he fished in his wallet for his FLQ membership card to show it to us.

No kidding.

That's kind of disappointing. Can you make something up?

No, the faster guy drove a clapped-out Lada.

Dragged the bike outta da shed mon...

Ya mon! It was a bitch to put back mon!

So I'm running out of things to do preparing the bike. What remains is:

Bleed the front brakes.

Set the rear (drum) brakes. This is a little task I found reading the owner's manual (long winter) that supposedly makes the brakes perform better. The book says that before tightening the rear axle bolt, depress the rear brake pedal fully. I never did that and my rear brakes are...challenged.

Redistribute some tools etc to the new tool bag on my front fender.

Wash the bike. It got dirty about ten rides ago.

But the biggest task remaining for me is to get the dates on my calendar.

Being the center of my family's universe I'd like to get the time allocated.

Any specificity on this matter Mr Fearless Leader sir?

Black Flag: "Family Man"

Family man, I wanna crucify you to your front door with nails
from your well stocked garage, family man, family man.
family man.
Saint Dad. Father on Fire. I've come to incinerate you
I've come home.

Don't you miss the 80's? Big hair? Mohawks? Brit bands of indeterminate gender and very angry punks?

As stated before, last two weeks in August. That's my call, and I'm standing by it.

Got my new GPS in. Garmin 78. Reasonably impressed with the unit. Totally nonplussed with the documentation. That's why we got EmBeeDee.
