Rebirth?
It wouldn't surprise me if 'Berg (KTM's alter ego) came out with an 800cc ADV twin.
I'd be happy to help with developement.

My guess is there will be a nice supply of used 950/990 bikes to keep everyone happy for a long time.

I think it's more interesting to see that there are more and more 950Adv on the market that are sold as parts since the seller can't get not even close to the asking price of the motorcycle. Not sure if they do get what they want for the parts but still there are more and more used parts on the market, at least here in Europe.
Not sure how I should think about the 990 dissapear of the market. Still the best looking Adv bike I must say but every time I ride a 990 I'm super happy when I get back on my 950 with carbs. She's a keeper... :) /Zappa

When I ordered my 990 ADV R 3 weeks ago my dealer told me that production already stopped so mine is one of the last few bikes built.I dont have a reason not to believe him.Even if we all would love to see the bike still in production the fact is that KTM with their financial situation simply can't afford it.Unless they would sell more shares to Bajaj.Sad but true. Wouldnt worry about the parts. The bike was in production and sold on all continents for 10 years. |

It is time for a change...
Yes, the 9xx Adventure was starting to show it's age. Don't get me wrong because they're still exceptionally fun bikes, but they're due for a revamp.
If Triumph can come out with a 1200 and an 800... I'm sure KTM will follow suit in the years to come. In fact, if KTM were to eventually add a lighter version in the next few years... there would be a helluva lot of used 9xx's on the market to part source. Only time will tell.

It's just a bike. When parts or whole bikes get too scarce, move on. There is always something else out there.

Sorry to disappoint you but I don't think there will be 7-800cc V2 version in the next 5 years. First of all KTM doesn't have money for it. Second, even if there was hope, Brussels will screw the manufacturers with CO2 regulations so much (and the governments all of us with more restrictions where we can, or can not ride and all that blah blah blah) that it doesn't make sense anymore to be bothered with a developing this kind of bike for very narrow market. |

USA--not going anywhere anytime soon. 1190 is off USA website
As of this writing, the KTM 1190 has been removed from the USA website. Only the 990 is on there. Who knows, maybe they are going to shift the 990 to the US market, and pilot the sales of the 1190 Adv in Europe?
Just guessing....

Don't have a 690, but 990 is lower than KLR
Quote:
I had a KLR that was pretty tall, and the 990 is definitely lower. Not sure if that helps you at all, but if you are 5"9 or taller you should be able to at least "half-foot" the bike on each side.

I was in talking to the dealer today and he would neither confirm or deny that the end of the 990 was near. His thoughts were that with the 1190 coming stateside ( early 2013 was his guess) it wouldn't surprise him that the 990 would stop being produced. WJR

I dunno how it is compared to those new '12 690's as their even lowered more. My guess is that they're pretty equal as the '11 690 wasnt that much higher. |

We have not seen any difinitive proof that that KTM is halting production of the 990. Until an official release and/or removal of the 990 on the KTM website, let's keep rumors as rumors. As it sits right now no one at KTM has confirmed the cease of 990 production. Still on the website. And in fact I have heard more confirmation that the 990 will remain in production than not. Let's hold our horses here.
