R1150GS Pannier /Top Box Compatibilitya

I'm looking to replace my system luggage with either Jessee Odyssey or Happy Trails panniers on my 2002 R1150GS. I would like to also use my factory BMW top box. This is the model with a built in passenger backrest which is a little over 18" wide in the front. Am wondering if anyone has used a similar set up and if the pannier lids clear the top box.

Micatech panniers/side cases open to the side, so you don't even have to remove all the crap you have strapped to the top of the bike, or worry about the lids hitting the topcase.

Just a thought.

My new Happy Trails (9" Tetons) don't work with the BMW TOP Box unfortunately. Can't open the lids with the box on. This is with the boxes in their stock mounting position for the factory.

Those look like Odyssey 1's. I think the lid shape has changed and the latest version may not work with the systems topcase?

Scott PDX Are the 9 inch Teton lids removeable if you remove the lid hinge screws and lift them off?

Finished Product

Ok, I finished the install on my Jesse Odyssey ll luggage system today. The right side opens and clears the factory rear top box with no problem. The exhaust side pannier has to be mounted all the way forward for the lid to clear the top box. The problem here is that I ride with my wife on the back and when the box is all the way forward she does not have much leg room. Were heading out next month to Central America and she will be putting a lot of hours in the saddle. I could use some spacers on the mounts and maybe gain 1" rearward but probably will set the pannier back and remove the top box when I need access to the pannier.

The hinge and bushings on the Happy Trails lids can be removed in short time and access can be made with virtually any top box.
