Let's see your CB500/550

Had 1 of each back in the 70's. Just bought an orange 1974 550. Picking it up Saturday!!! Would like to see what others have. Please post no matter the condition. Thanks

Hey Mike! Not a great pic, but it should make you chuckle, since you're already aware of the way I treat seventies street bikes! I miss this one:

Lately I've been working on a CL450 scrambler, and looking forward to having a seventies Honda to abuse again.

Ted - Forgot you had that. I am trying to buy one currently and re-live my youth!! I guess that is what happens when you cross the 60 border...

You know, that would have made a good dirt bike too, tho I am sure the CL450 will get you in plenty of trouble...

HD - Absolutely beautiful 550! Did you do the work? Please explain what all has been done to the bike. Is there a thread on the build up? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. It's probably the most pure fun bike I've ever owned.

I had one. Great bike. It was my first "Real" bike that wasn't a tiny old ratbike.

It was a '75 550f. I will have to dig up the pictures. Picked it up for $550, needing a bit of work, but it started right up with some fresh coils, a new gas tank, and some carb cleaning. Sold it 5 months later for $1600, wish I'd have kept it: the hipsters pushed the value to easily $3000 in the bay area.

+1

An '82 500-4 was my first bike. I didn't truly appreciate it when I owned it, but came to understand what a good motor that was after having two Yamahas (Seca 650 and 750) that ran rough at about the same point that the 500's power band kicked in.

Here's my 1971 CB500/4. It took me and my gf (now wife) on a 10k mile trip around the country in the summer of 2010. Very tough and capable machine. And tons of fun to ride and own.
I love that bike to pieces. In fact, that's a literal statement. Its engine is all apart in my basement and I am taking forever to reassemble it. I miss it terribly though and it will be on the road this spring!

If you're not already aware there's a great online forum for SOHC4 hondas. SOHC4.net. Without that resource I probably would never have got my bike running, nevermind taken across the country.

Just picked her up last weekend. Runs great once I changed the oil. Had 4 quarts in it!

Nice, Mike! That's my favorite of all the Honda paint schemes through the years.
